Mossberg Retrograde Shotguns

If you cruise internet shotgun forums, you’ll see that “retro” shotgun builds are popular. Some of these builds are more involved than others but typically retro just means that the shotgun has wood, military/police style stocks. Apparently, Mossberg is aware of this trend too because their new Retrograde line fits the bill.

There are two shotguns in the line. The 500 Retrograde features an 18.5″ cylinder bore barrel with a brass bead sight. It offers 6+1 capacity and comes equipped with walnut stocks.

The 590A1 Retrograde features a 20″ cylinder bore barrel with ghost ring sights and a heat shield. It boasts 8+1 capacity and, of course, walnut stocks.

CDM Gear MTR Fits New Mossberg 590M

Mossberg is introducing their magazine fed 590M at the SHOT Show and CDM Gear already has it covered for light and sling mounts. Their MTR provides a removable light rail, two sling mounting loops, and is designed to fit into tight spaces on shotguns with 25mm magazines tubes – like the new 590M.

CDM Gear Delta Wave Mossberg Safety

I know a few of you have been following the development of CDM Gear’s new Mossberg shotgun safety. The time has come. It is now available.

The Delta Wave Mossberg Safety was, in the words of CDM Gear:

created to give you a little more reach and control when activating the safety on your Mossberg 500, 590A1, 903SPX and others. By creating a second contact and control point closer to the operator, the safety can be rocked on and off more easily without excessive reach or even taking your thumb off the safety. An aggressive ,wide and deep serration assures grip and control while the wide, curved rear deck increases contact awareness in questionable situations. CDM Gear Mossberg Safety Update

You may remember our previous mention of the promising extended Mossberg safety that CDM Gear was developing. They have made major progress in the development of that safety since it was last featured on these pages.

We now know that it will retail for $19.95 which makes it competitive with other upgraded Mossberg safeties. We also know that the first batch has been anodized and is currently being tested by CDM Gear. These should be available at retail shortly.

These safeties are noteworthy for its shape that may allow it to be operated without breaking your shooting grip for some shooters. It also presents a large target for those who sweep the safety on and off with their finger tips much like an AK selector. It is both wider than the factory safety switch and it extends back toward the buttstock. It’s shape actually moves the switch back toward the shooter’s weapon-side hand by about one inch. The extra length and the extra width in strategic places, should make it much easier to reach.

The tang safety found on Mossberg shotguns great in that they are completely ambidextrous and intuitive but many shooters will find that they have to break their grip in order to operate it. There are countless after-market safeties available that make the safety switch larger but none really address the issue of having to break your firing grip. Until now…

The upcoming CDM Gear Mossberg Shotgun Safety looks to have a ton of potential. It is both wider than the factory safety switch and it extends back toward the buttstock. It’s shape actually moves the switch back toward the shooter’s weapon-side hand by about one ince. The extra length and the extra width in strategic places, should make it much easier to reach.

The attention to detail here seems quite good as CDM Gear has even shaped the safety so that the visual safe/fire indicator is still functional as intended by Mossberg.
