Vickers Guide: 1911

To say that Larry Vickers knows 1911s is an understatement. He knows their history, their mechanics, their operation, their application, the people who make them, and the people who collect them. There may not be anyone living who can speak with more authority on the 1911 and that is what makes his newest book, Vickers Guide: 1911, so exciting.

vickers guide 1911

This is a proper coffee table book. It is chocked full of a amazing photography, technical data, and historical context for some truly rare 1911s. All of this is wrapped up in a package that conveys the permanence, status, and weight of the 1911 itself.

If you are even the least bit interesting in 1911s, you need to check out this book at VickersGuide.com.

Blue Force Gear – New for 2015

Larry Vickers visited Blue Force Gear at SHOT Show 2015 and received a first look at a ton of new gear being released this year. The video shows the new belt pouches that have already been announced but also gives a glimpse of an upcoming belt and the new AK sling based on the success of the limited editions that were released last year.

As a big fan of Blue Force Gear’s packs and Dapper system, I think the biggest new in the video is the return of the Micro DAP Pack with some new features and an affordable price. I know that the Dappers themselves are also being redesigned and released. I have put hands on them and they have been improved in a big way. Stay tuned for more.

Lipsey’s Vickers Tactical GLOCK Exclusives

Here is a bit of good news to start your day: Larry Vickers worked with Lipsey’s to bring some RTF2 textured Gen 3 GLOCK 17s and 19s back to market! The Gen 3 RTF2 frames are still my favorite GLOCKs even with the introduction of the Gen 4 frame.

It get’s better. These GLOCKs will have Flat Dark Earth colored frames, special serial numbers (0000LAV to 2499LAV for the G17 and 2500LAV to 4999LAV for the G19), the new Wilson Tactical Vickers sights (installed), 2 TangoDown/Vickers magazine baseplates, TangoDown/Vickers magazine release, and TangoDown/Vickers slide stop lever. If all of that isn’t enough, each one will also include a coupon for 10% training with the LAV himself.

Check out the G17 and G19 at Lipsey’s and head over to your local dealer to purchase one. The whole package costs just $100 over the standard dealer price which is pretty solid considering the sights and all the extra goodies.

BFG Limited Edition AK Sling

If Larry Vickers was a 1940s Soviet sling manufacturer, this is what would happen…

AK Sling 2-600x400

Blue Force Gear has just released just only 500 of these absolutely gorgeous Limited Edition AK Slings. If Banana Republic sold AK slings, this is what they would look like.

It certainly looks good but isn’t just a pretty face. It performs well too. This is a Vickers Combat Applications Sling (VCAS) through and through. It still features the bomb-proof hardware and comfortable webbing that Blue Force Gear is known for along with the quick-adjustment you have come to expect from the VCAS. It has just been dressed up to look more at home on an AK.

The front attachment point is a standard AK snap hook to work with the sling loop on many AK handguard retainer caps. The rear is a simple webbing attachment point to work with the wire loop found on many AK stocks. The plastic tril-glides are molded with “plum” colored polymer and the pull tab is made from leather! They even ink stamp the label to complete the look. This sling is loaded with attention to detail.

There are only 500 of these so act fast. They won’t last long. Check out the Limited Edition AK Sling at Blue Force Gear.
