Review: QD Micro MOUNT-N-SLOT Installed by IWC

I recently mentioned that Impact Weapons Components (IWC) is offering Magpul MOE Hand Guards with their QD Micro MOUNT-N-SLOT pre-installed by IWC. Now I have a sample of the hand guards in hand so that I can check out the QD Micro MOUNT-N-SLOT and the quality of the installation for myself.

IWC uses a jig to allow them to precisely and repeatably locate the hole that must be drilled in order to install the QD Micro MOUNT-N-SLOT in the MOE Hand Guards. The result is a very clean looking installation. At first glance, the modification is barely noticeable. It looks like it was meant to be there.

IWC installs the QD Micro MOUNT-N-SLOT very close to the receiver end of the hand guards. This serves a couple of purposes. First, placing your sling mount closer to the receiver increases the mobility of the rifle. You can move the rifle through more shooting and manipulation positions without the sling pulling so taught as to hinder movement. This location also happens to have enough “meat” to allow mounting the QD Micro MOUNT-N-SLOT on any of the three lengths of MOE Hand Guards.

The QD Micro MOUNT-N-SLOT itself is very slick. This is about as low profile and light weight as a sling mount can get. It nests inside the hand guard with only a small metal ring protruding through to give a clue that there is a sling mount present. There is a split ring on the outside that prevents the QD Micro from falling back into the hand guards and 2 small set screws inside that prevent it from spinning. I am also happy to note that there are several rotation stops that prevent the sling swivel from spinning. This is an incredibly economical, simplistic, and clever approach to mounting a sling.

SMC Light MOUNT-N-SLOT from IWC

Impact Weapons Components shows no signs of slowing the flow of MOUNT-N-SLOTs. Their latest MOUNT-N-SLOT is one that I have been looking forward to for a long time. The SMC Light MOUNT-N-SLOT is designed to allow you to attach many of the most popular weapon mounted lights to any size Magpul MOE Hand Guards (carbine, midlength, and rifle length) or Bushmaster ACR hand guards.

The SMC Light MOUNT-N-SLOT attaches to the side of the MOE Hand Guards and then cantilevers the light up toward to the front sight base (FSB). This light placement allows the bezel of the light to extend beyond the FSB which minimizes shadowing and it places the tailcap switch directly under thumb when the rifle is gripped naturally. I have found this placement to work very well.

The SMC’s modular design allows it to work with many of the most popular lights for weapon mounting. It works with the Surefire Scout lights via direct attachment. With the addition of a proprietary flashlight ring, it will also allow you mount lights like the Surefire G2X, G2L, 6P, Streamlight Polytac and more. If you ever decide to change your light, the rings will be available for purchase separate from the mount so you can replace just the ring and not the entire mount.

IWC machines the SMC from Billet 6061-T6 Aluminum and then tops them off with with a durable black hard anodized finish. All of the unnecessary material is milled away to keep the weight down to 1.820 ounces. The SMC Light MOUNT-N-SLOT comes with all the hardware and tools that you need to mount it on your hand guards.

Impact Weapons Components New Site and Giveaway

TM QD Rotation Limited Sling MOUNT-N-SLOT from IWC

Impact Weapons Components really has their finger on the pulse of AR-15 shooters. Their latest product, the TM QD Rotation Limited Sling MOUNT-N-SLOT, will solve some sling mounting problems for those who prefer (or who are required to use) the standard hand guards, users of Magpul MOE Hand Guards, and Bushmaster ACR users.

The TM QD Rotation Limited Sling MOUNT-N-SLOT mounts to the cooling holes in the top of the hand guards via two screws. It extends to the side and down in order to place a QD sling swivel receptacle in a useful position. The user can mount it anywhere along the top of the rail but, in my opinion, it will really shine when it is mounted as near to the upper receiver as possible.

The TM QD Rotation Limited Sling MOUNT-N-SLOT will work especially well as the front attachment point for a sling using the truly impressive 2 to 1 Point Triglide.
