Battle Arms Development BAD556-LW Lightweight 7075-T6 Receiver Set

I have been likening Battle Arms Development’s ultralight AR-15 OIP project as an F1 racing team where the tech developed for the track, exentually trickles down to daily drivers. Well, “eventually” will be this Thanksgiving. That is when Battle Arms Development will drop their new BAD556-LW Lightweight 7075-T6 Receiver Set. The teaser pictures are jaw dropping.

The receivers and other parts used in the OIP project are only available as a complete build through Brentwood Gunsmithing. The BAD556-LW Lightweight 7075-T6 Receiver Set will be available to anyone!

Latest on the BAD/Brentwood Gunsmithing OIP Carbine – a Sub 4 Pound AR-15

If you are a fan of lightweight AR-15 carbines, you likely remember the joint project between Battle Arms Development and Brentwood Gunsmithing called the OIP Carbine or Ounces is Pounds Carbine. Battle Arms Development released an image of one of the receiver sets with a very cool natural anodized finish. This is the best look at what it takes to make a sub-4 lb. AR-15 yet.

You can see that extra material has been aggressively milled away and even skeletonized in some places. The top rail has been shortened to allow just enough space for an Aimpoint Micro. The stock is a minimalist nub of aluminum. Every part was scrutinized and I suppose that is what it takes to make a carbine that is a full 2 pounds lighter than what most consider ultralight when it comes to AR-15s.

2 New BAD-ASS Levers from Battle Arms Development

Battle Arms Development is dropping 2 new levers today for their excellent BAD-ASS line of selectors. This will bring the total to 8 available lever options (9 if you count the end cap)!

bad-ass levers

The first lever is one that has been around for a while but hasn’t been as visible as the other levers. The Short Crank (shown above, bottom row, third from left) is a short version of their Crank lever. It resembles a manual car window crank. It works very well due to how the “knob” portion of the lever allows it to pivot under your thumb or index finger. If you like the old “starburst” selectors, and many people still do, then this is the lever for you.

The second new lever is called the Scalloped Lever (shown above, bottom row, second from left). Sharp minded readers may remember back to when it was called the Short Hybrid Lever during its development with Military Moron. Well, it is finally available and I have one in hand. It is probably my favorite lever for the trigger finger side of the BAD-ASS. It is short enough to stay out of the way, thin where it needs to be to minimize trigger finger interference, and wide enough to be easily manipulated. It is the ultimate compromise lever and I love it.

You can check out all the new levers at Battle Arms Development.

This is an early, pre-production rendering of the Scalloped Lever. The production version may exhibit some changes.
