Battle Arms Development OIP Lower Receiver

We recently showed you the upper receiver from the Bentwood Gunsmithing exclusive Battle Arms Development OIP (Ounces is Pounds) carbine. Now we have a sneak peak at the lower receiver. The renderings below give you a pretty solid idea of what the final product will look like though the faceted areas shown will actually be smooth curves.

Again, these will be available exclusively through Bentwood Gunsmithing as part of a complete carbine but you can expect to find the ideas explored here incorporated into upcoming Battle Arms Development products.

Battle Arms Development OIP AR-15 Upper Receiver

Battle Arms Development’s work with Bentwood Gunsmithing on their sub 4 pound AR-15 reminds me of how car manufacturers develop new tech for their racing teams with the hope that the new tech will eventually trickle down to their production cars. They are exploring ideas, like the new OIP Upper Receiver, that will eventually find their way into the Battle Arms Development product line.

The OIP upper receiver is an exercise in minimalism. Extra material is machined away. Rail space is reduced to only what is necessary to mount an Aimpoint Micro. The port cover is deleted. All that remains is basically the bare minimum needed to support an optic, barrel, BCG, and charging handle.

The new OIP (Ounces is Pounds) upper receiver shown in this post won’t be available for individual purchase but it will be available as part of the OIP carbine which will be available exclusively through Bentwood Gunsmithing. However, you can expect that ideas shown here will find their way into other products. Battle Arms Development is already designing another light weight upper receiver that will feature a full top rail and will be available for purchase separately.

SIONICS Weapon Systems and Axelson Tactical Commemorative Rifle

SIONICS Weapon Systems was approached by Jeff Axelson of Axelson Tactical to create a rifle to commemorate his brother Matthew Axelson who was during Operation Red Wings on June 28th, 2005. Matthew is an American hero who was awarded the Navy Cross for his action on this mission.

The rifle will be reminiscent of the rifle that Axelson was carrying on that mission but with a generous dose of the state of the art. It will be limited to just 100 pieces and will feature special serial numbers and engraving.

The tentative specs are:

  1. 18″ stainless 1×8 twist rifle length gas system barrel with bead blast finish
  2. Battle Comp 1.0 muzzle device with special laser engraving
  3. Geissele low profile gas block
  4. Geissele 15″ MKII Rail
  5. Geissele SSA trigger
  6. Vltor A5 Buffer System
  7. B5 Systems SOPMOD Stock
  8. Vltor/BCM Gunfighter MOD 4 handle
  9. Magpul MBUS PRO sights
  10. Battle Arms Development Ambidextrous Safety Selector
  11. 3 color camouflage Cerakote from Personal Defense Warehouse in Chandler, AZ

All of the rifles will ship in a Pelican case with a certificate of authenticity, data sheet, and special coins that are numbered to the rifle. Keep in mind that these specs may change as the plans are finalized and the various artwork for the engraving is still being completed.
