Pat Rogers Has a Nicer AR Pistol Than You!

The AR pistol is enjoying unprecedented levels of acceptance among shooters of all types, including quality instructors. This was starting to happen before the release of the Sig SB15 Pistol Brace but the brace’s arrival solidified the current interest in the AR pistol.

You may recall a previous post where I broke the news of BCM’s work with AR pistols. That post mentions that Pat Rogers of EAG Tactical was working with AR pistols to see how viable they were. Well, he has recorded some of his thoughts and experiences on Lightfighter and recently he posted an image of at least one of his BCM built AR pistols. It’s a really stinkin’ nice pistol.

EAG BCM AR Pistol

The pictured pistol features a ton of BCM gear which isn’t surprising. I see a KMR Rail, GUNFIGHTER Comp, GUNFIGHTER Grip, and, of course, a BCM upper/lower. The Magpul AFG is a conservative choice given the BATFE’s stance on vertical grips on a pistols with an OAL of 26″ or less (I don’t know the OAL on this pistol). Pat Rogers’ affinity for the bomb-proof Aimpoint T1 is well known so it is no surprise to see one in use here.

Don’t Expect a Magpul Arm Brace Any Time Soon

Magpul has an established track record with buttstocks for the AR-15 so it is pretty easy to imagine that they could come up with a killer version of the pistol arm braces that are so popular right now. It is fine to let your imagination run wild with that idea for a bit but don’t hold your breath waiting for Magpul to drop a brace into the marketplace.

The following is a quote on M4C from Magpuls Director of Product Management and Marketing, Duane Liptak Jr.:

More braces and more opinion requests might just hasten an end to this whole market through an opinion reversal, which isn’t good for anyone, so we’ll likely steer clear of any products in this vein. I would prefer to see the ATF realize that this whole SBR thing is silly, as pointed out by the arm brace opinion, so that short barrels are no longer a determinant of NFA status. With all the more strict gun control in many, less free nations around the world, I’m not aware of anyone else that sees barrel length as something that needs to be controlled. It’s silly.

Kudos to Magpul for taking a sensible approach.

Phase 5 Tactical Pistol Completion Kit

Much of the credit for the current popularity of the AR pistol is owed to Phase 5 Tactical (and the SB15 AR Pistol Brace). They have been creating products that are centered around AR pistols since long before the current trend. Suffice it to say, they know a thing or two about AR pistols. That is why their Pistol Completion Kit caught my eye.

The Phase 5 Pistol Completion Kit contains everything you need to turn a stripped lower receiver (that has never been built as a rifle) into an AR Pistol. It contains a one of Phase 5’s excellent pistol uppers which comes assembled, complete with their 7.5” Lo-Pro Slope Nose Quad Rail, and ready to drop on your lower. The kit also includes Phase 5’s lower parts kit and Battle Latch. The kit is topped off with Phase 5’s pistol buffer tube.

Check out the Phase 5 Tactical Pistol Completion Kit at Brownells. There is a current special that will save you $15 when you use the code G2S at checkout (this code works for any purchase of $100 or more).

From Daniel Defense:

Black Creek, GA- August 25, 2014- Daniel Defense, engineering and manufacturing the world’s finest firearms, precision rail systems and accessories, today announced new product releases: DDM4v11 Series Rifles, MK18 Pistol and 300 Blackout Pistol Variants.

Daniel Defense introduces the DDM4v11 series of rifles with the newly designed SLiM Rail™ 15.0, their first rail system featuring the KeyMod attachment system. “Our customers have been hounding us for a KeyMod rail”, laughs Jordan Hunter, Daniel Defense Director of Marketing. “Not only were we able to deliver, but we managed to reduce the weight. You’ll be amazed at how light the V11 feels in hand.” The V11 is available with the 16-inch Government, 16-inch Lightweight, or 18-inch Strength-to-Weight (S2W®) barrel. The SLiM Rail™, which is an acronym for Slim Lightweight Modular, will be available for individual sale at a later date.

Simultaneously, Daniel Defense is releasing the MK18 Pistol and 300 Blackout Pistol. A recent ATF ruling making it easier to possess an AR pistol, and extended approval times for NFA tax stamps, has driven demand for the pistol variant. The MK18 Pistol is very similar to the MK18 Factory SBR—popular in the law enforcement and special operations communities—with a 10.3” barrel that is classified as an SBR (short-barreled rifle) under the National Firearms Act. The 300 Blackout Pistol, chambered in 300 AAC Blackout, also comes with a 10.3” barrel. Both pistols are designed with a 1.15” Diameter Pistol Receiver Extension opposed to a Mil-Spec receiver extension and buttstock and are not NFA regulated items.

I confirmed that the SLiM Rail shown on the DDM4V11 uses the same barrel nut as DD Lite and Omega X Rails. If you already have one of those rails, you will not have to remove the barrel nut to install the SLiM Rail. You can check out the new products at their individual product pages below.

MI AR Pistol Buffer Tube

I told you about Midwest Industries’ new line of AR Pistols and new AR Pistol Buffer Tube yesterday. I was able to round up even more details on the buffer tube and, on paper, it is pretty exciting.

The MI AR Pistol Buffer Tube is similar to other tubes on the market in that it has a shoulder for the SB15 Arm Brace to rest against in order to increase the length of pull and it uses a standard end plate and castle nut which provides several rear sling mounting options.

However, it has also 2 features that make it stand out. First, it is long enough that the rear of the tube sits flush with the rear of the SB15. This completely fills the void at the rear of the SB15 to provide more rigidity and it is long enough to bring an AR pistol with a 10.5″ barrel to 26″ overall length so you can install a vertical grip (see here for details)! Second, the tube is mil-spec diameter behind the threads which means that most clamp style rear sling mounts can be used.

This looks like a great option for those who are building an AR Pistol. Check out the new MI AR Pistol Buffer Tube at Midwest Industries.
