Aero Precision Acquires Majority Stake in Ballistic Advantage

Aero Precision (AP) just officially announced their partnership with Ballistic Advantage (BA). AP acquired a majority stake in the barrel maker and BA will now operate as a subsidiary of AP. With Aero Precision’s quality AR-15 and AR-10 receivers and Ballistic Advantage’s massive range of excellent barrels, this is a match made in heaven.

Many of you Aero Precision but fewer may be familiar with Ballistic Advantage which is a shame because they make excellent barrels. BA offers a wide range of barrels in various lengths, materials, finishes, profiles, and gas systems. I have used several of their barrels from their least expensive Modern Series barrels to their higher end precision barrels. They have all been excellent. In fact, their Modern Series barrels are among the best values on the market right now, their Hanson profile barrels are some of the best all-around lightweight barrels available, and their short barrels are known for being smooth and reliable.

This is very good news for shooters.

ALG Defense AK Triggers

You should probably sit down. ALG Defense is developing a trigger for the AK family of weapons (AK-47, AK-74, AKM, etc.). Details are sparse at the moment but we do know that it has a unique trigger bow shape and position that ALG Defense and Geissele Automatics are calling the Lightning Bow. Expect more details to be available at or around SHOT Show.

This is a market dominated for the most part by the TAPCO G2. If ALG Defense can deliver the type of quality and value that they are known for in their AR-15 triggers, this will be a massive coup.

The Brass Wrangler

Finally! A brass catcher that doesn’t look like it was cobbled together from wire hangers and aquarium netting in some guy’s basement.

The Brass Wrangler is the best thought-out brass catcher that I have seen for AR-15s. The catch is that your AR-15 must have a hand guard with a top rail and a dust cover. It attaches to the top rail via a plastic arm and is designed to be help open by your AR-15’s dust cover. This set up is much more compact than typical brass catchers.

Brass Wrangler is currently available to crowd fund on RocketHub. The working prototype was made with Kydex and the funding will be used to purchase the necessary molding to make the plastic parts out of more durable injection molded polymer.

I absolutely see the utility of a brass catcher but I have never wanted to fiddle with one since they all seem to be junk. This looks like something that has had some actual thought put into it. Check out the Brass Wrangler on RocketHub.

Ruger 10/22 BX-25 Magazine Belt Pouch and Chest Rig from Crusader Gear

When I first started JTT, Retro-Tactical was one of my favorite small gear makers to keep tabs on because Tony, the owner, was always developing functional gear for weapons that were a bit off the beaten path. That included a lot of great 10/22 gear which I still use today. Retro-Tactical closed its doors but Crusader Gear may just be in line to inherit the throne. They have been rolling out several great 10/22 products that support Ruger’s excellent BX-25 magazine.

I have mentioned their BX-25 MOLLE pouches before and now they have introduced a belt mounted single mag version. It features bungee retention and a belt loop that will accommodate belt widths of up to 1.75″. This would be perfect to slap on your belt for a walk in the woods.

They also introduced a BX-25 based chest rig! It holds 4 magazines in a shingle style pouch with individual bungee retention. The front of the pouch features a large loop field for patches. The chest rig also features 3 x 3 MOLLE fields on either side and an “H” harness. You can keep enough .22LR on tap to take out every varmint in your county!

Manitcore Arms Eclipse Flash Hider for AKs

The new Manticore Arms Eclipse Flash Hider for AKs that we mentioned a few weeks ago is now available in 3 different thread patterns that should cover most of the commonly available AK pattern rifles on the market…

I have tested the Eclipse for the AR-15 and its performance is impressive. It is right up there with other top flash suppression performers. I suspect that it will be just as impressive on the AK, especially with ammo like Golden Tiger which is less flashy than most of the cheap, steel cased offerings on the market.
