The most effective way of controlling recoil costs a lot more than that $100 or even $400 muzzle brake. It also takes a lot longer than placing an order on the internet and waiting for delivery of the latest muzzle device. The single most effective way to control muzzle climb, and improve your shot-to-shot speed, is practice.
It is very tempting to watch the YouTube videos of all the various muzzle devices that are available and then wear out your credit card ordering the latest and greatest. I have news for you. Those guys who are shooting in those videos would be able to hold the muzzle level without the muzzle device that they are touting. Their secret is no secret at all. They train more than you.
I am not saying that muzzle devices are useless. They are definitely not useless. They are great for giving good shooters an extra edge. They make fast shooters faster. They will not turn a new shooter into a master or even a mediocre shooter into a good one.
Before you drop $200 and a few days waiting for delivery on a new muzzle device, drop $200 on ammo and a few days on the range. I’ve said it before and I will say it again – no amount of gear will replace training. Get good, then get the gear.
