Oregon/Arizona Online Handgun Safety Course

Having a concealed handgun permit from a another state in addition to the one that you live in can be a very good idea if that state’s permit offers reciprocity that your own state’s permit does not offer. This is especially true if you live in a state with no training requirement which often means that your permit will not be recognized by states that have a training requirement.

I recently came across a site, Blackstone Gun Safety, that offers online Handgun Safety Courses that fulfill the training requirement for the Oregon CHL and Arizona CWL. This allows you to fulfill the training requirement for these licenses from the comfort of your own home. The Arizona CWL in particular is widely recognized by many states.

Ummm – sometimes, the devil is in the details:

“R13-9-305. Responsibilities of the Responsible Party of an Authorized Firearms-safety Training Organization

    E. If a firearms-safety instructor teaching for a firearms-safety training organization conducts training for an applicant under this Article, the responsible party shall ensure that the training is conducted within Arizona.”

Maybe Blackstone believes that an online safety course is sufficient proof of firearms safety training for an AZ CCW permit, and maybe they’ve had students who’ve successfully obtained an AZ CCW with their online class, but if Blackstone has actually applied to AZ DPS to be listed/recognized as an “Authorized Firearms Safety Training Organization,” then, as far as I can tell, they are still subject to the Administrative Rule shown above…
