Target is Moving

Target is Moving is a lightweight, compact moving target that can be used a number of ways. It’s AA battery powered motorized base is shielded against accidental strikes and can be attached to a target stand at your outdoor range or hung from a target hanger on an indoor range.

The included remote control allows you (or your shooting partner) to control the speed at which the target moves and the mode (constant, random, etc.) from up to 50 yards away. The target portion is easily replaceable (8 are included) and made from cardboard so it can handle anything from rimfires to rifle rounds and everything in between.

This seems like a compact and easy to deal with way to add some movement to your training.

Abner Miranda on Single Point Slings

I am generally not a huge fan of single point slings unless they are the convertible type that can be converted to a 2 point sling. However, a video that I watched yesterday has me thinking about single point slings in a different light. I am not going to throw out all my 2 point slings but I might just spend a bit more time with a single point to see what it is all about.

The video was produced by Abner Miranda and in it, he shows techniques that mitigate many of the commonly mentioned shortcomings of single point slings. You can view it below. If you hate single point slings, you might just gain a little appreciation of them. If you already use single point slings, you will pick up a couple of techniques to make living with them easier.

Make Ready with Freddie Blish: Intro to Combat Optics

This might be the most exciting Panteao Productions title yet. They will be releasing Make Ready with Freddie Blish: Intro to Combat Optics soon. Why should you care you ask? Great question.

You may not know it, but you likely know Freddie Blish’s work. He is probably more qualified than anyone to talk about combat optics. Panteao Production’s description of the video has a little to say about why that is:

Freddie is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Marine Corps, where he served 24 years. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, he served as the Director of Military Business Development for Aimpoint, Inc, where he developed an intensive training program on their use by the US Army Regional Training Center firearms instructors, US Army Mountain Warfare School, USAF Para-Rescue, and I Marine Expeditionary Force Advisory Training Teams.

It neglects to mention stints with LaRue Tactical, ROBAR, and as a Gunsite Range Master among other notable experience. He is also the creator of the Combat Optic Tool which is one of my favorite and most useful range gadgets. He is an authority of the subject of optics and should be able to drop some knowledge in a big way in this video.

Viking Tactics Transition Drill

Viking Tactics provides a wealth of drills on their Youtube channel that you can incorporate into your range routine. The latest video that they posted is interesting not only for the drill, the Transition Drill, but for an interesting piece of gear that makes an appearance.

The Transition Drill has the shooter transitioning not only between strong side and weak side but also between yard lines and from primary to secondary. There is a lot of transitioning going on with an emphasis on balancing speed and accuracy at various distances. This certainly appears to be a very challenging drill (in spite of how easy Kyle Lamb makes it look).

The video also provides a tantalizing look at a new optic from Leupold called the LCO. It appears to be a red dot sight and Leupold has trademarked the LCO but that is pretty much all I know. Viking Tactics often seems to have new Leupold optics to test before anyone so this may be something hitting shelves soon. It would be nice to see Leupold finally bring a competitive, USA made RDS to market.
