Everyone knows the Emerson Commander. It is one of the all time great tactical knives. However, you have never seen an Emerson Commander like this one with a Crusader shield shaped pivot. These will be available soon from Emerson Knives.

Windowed Sheath from Artificum Solis Bladeworks
What do you do when you spend all the time necessary to create a beautiful Damascus steel blade? Well, you don’t cover it up with a Kydex sheath, that’s for sure! These new “window style sheaths” from Artificum Solis Bladeworks allow everyone to admire the beauty of their Damascus Hunter model knife, even while it is in the sheath.
Sure, this may not keep dirt, dust, mud, and guts out but something tells me you’ll probably use a different knife if you think there is a good chance that you may be encountering any of those things.

Pro-Tech Knives Rockeye
Pro-Tech Knives is known for making high value automatic knives that fire hard and for offering great customer service to back up those knives. Les George is known for broad, sweeping drop point blades and hand filling handle designs. That sounds like a match made in heaven to me.
Pro-Tech introduced the Rockeye, a Les George collaboration, at this year’s Blade Show and released 260 prototypes (200 plain or knurled handles, 60 with sterling silver skulls inset) some of which are still on the market. The Rockeye is a fairly large knife at 8.4″ overall with a 3.4″ long, .125″ thick blade. The handle is .5″ thick and a full 5″ long! It weighs around 4.6 ounces so, while this knife is a large and a bit heavy, it is still very doable for every day carry.
The blade is ground from CPM D2 steel and all of the prototype models feature a black DLC coating. The pocket clip is configured for right-handed tip up carry. The release button, clip, and hardware are all blackened to match the blade.
The Rockeye has Pro-Tech’s typically well executed release button which, in my experience, do not require a safety. The button sits low and is well protected from accidental release. The button usually has to be pressed very slightly below the surface of the scale in order to release the blade. I greatly prefer Pro-Tech autos because of how well this system works without the need for a safety.
The Rockeye will go into regular production in August or September.

Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7
Pro-Tech Knives manufactures excellent automatic knives at relatively affordable prices and the Emerson Knives CQC7 is an absolute classic. What would happen if they were to join forces? The result would be an amazing knife. Apparently, I have been living under a rock because the Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7 has been around since 2010!
The Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7 is basically dimensionally identical to the Emerson Knives CQC7. It features Pro-Tech’s reliable automatic mechanism nested in a milled 6061-T6 aluminum handle. The iconic CQC7 tanto shaped blade and the spearpoint CQC7A blade shapes are available. These knives are available in a variety of handle types that range from mild to exotic.
The Emerson/Pro-Tech CQC7 is available at BladeHQ. I am going to have to pick one of these up for review!
