Adams Arms Manimal Extended Flash Hider

I mentioned the Manimal Extended Flash Hider back when it was being developed in 2012. It was vaporware for a while and I lost track of it. It was brought back to mind during a conversation with an industry friend and I was happy to find that it did finally make it to market.

Manimal Adams Arms

The Manimal Extended Flash Hider occupies a unique space among flash suppressors. It is designed to be long enough to be permanently attached to a 14.5″ barrel to bring it to a legal length of 16″. It is also narrow enough that the gas block and barrel nuts can be passed over the device (as long as the pin and weld are cleanly finished). That means that you can easily swap hand guards without having to remove/destroy your muzzle device.

Surefire 2014 Product Video

Surefire released a video to highlight their new products for 2014 and there are several interesting additions. Night vision owners will be happy to see all the new IR options. It is nice to see the M600P Surefire Scout Fury will become a catalog item. The new railed hand guards look interesting and the SL07 Dual Purpose Scout Light Switch seems like it has been a long time coming. The VOC (Variable Output Control) Tailcap also has my attention.

Kino XL Barrels

The pickings are pretty slim when it comes to “dissipator” style AR-15 uppers. However, I recently told you that Designated Hitter, under the direction of Kino Davis, would be selling their own dissipator uppers called the Kino XL. The uppers are not yet available but the barrels are!

KinoXL

Designated Hitter is selling two versions of the Kino XL barrel: a standard 4150 CMV version and a cold hammer forged version. Both feature:

  • 5.56 chamber
  • M4 feed ramps
  • 1 in 7″ twist
  • Manganese Phosphate finish (including under the FSB and gas block)
  • Mid-length gas system
  • 17-4PH stainless steel gas block
  • “F” marked front sight base
  • Fixed hand guard cap (can be removed from your order if you plan to use a free float rail on your build)

If you want a dissipator style AR-15, these are the best barrels you can put your hands on. Check out the Kino XL barrels from Designated Hitter.

Direct Mount VFG from Unity Tactical

Sometimes, when I am scrolling through my Facebook feed, something will catch my eye and it’s almost like I hear angels singing… That is what happened when I saw a SHOT Show preview of Unity Tactical’s upcoming direct connect vertical grip. It’s about time someone made one of these!

Unity Tactical direct VFG

This direct mount VFG will come with KeyMod hardware and standard hardware so that it can be attached to just about any slick-sided free float tube with holes in it. It is 2.25″ inches long and weighs just 1.1 ounces. The front and rear surfaces will be textured (not shown in the prototype pictures in this post) and it will be shaped to accommodate a number of grips (thumbs forward, thumb over, chicken choker, Kung Fu, etc).

I really don’t understand why it took so long for this to come to market but it seems that the slick tube style hand guards will finally have a direct connect vertical grip option. I consider this absolutely pivotal to their usefulness. I hope Unity Tactical sells a million of them.

Check out Unity Tactical online and, if you are attending SHOT Show, visit them in the TNVC Booth (#6502).

ALG Defense FSS

There are very few push button QD sling swivel manufacturers that I trust to make a consistently durable and reliable swivel. I am hoping that I can now add ALG Defense and their new Forged Sling Swivel (FSS) to that short list.

ALG FSS

The FSS is different than most swivels in that it is made from mostly 7075 T6 aluminum instead of steel. The swivel is hard anodized for durability and the button, which is steel, is Black Nitride processed. As a result of the aluminum construction, these swivels weigh about .5 oz which is about half of what a typical QD swivel weighs.

ALG Defense will roll out the FSS at SHOT Show. Check out their website in the mean time.
