SIONICS Weapon Systems Dissipator – Complete Rifle Now Available

SIONICS Weapon Systems recently introduced their Dissipator barrel and that is great news for Dissipator fans. Now they have released a complete rifle using the same barrel.

The barrel features everything you have come to expect from SIONICS barrels. The 16″ long barrel, 11595E CMV 4150 Steel barrel has a versatile 1 in 8″ twist. It is chrome lined and has M4 feed ramps. The low-profile gas block is placed in the mid-length gas position along with a pinned FSB in the rifle gas position.

The rifle is topped off with SIONICS’ excellent Nickel/PTFE treated M16 Bolt Carrier Group with extra power extractor spring and the ALG Defense QMS Mil-Spec trigger. It also features Magpul MOE Hand Guards and Stock, Ergo Grip, an “H” buffer, and PMAG 30.

One of the biggest disadvantages to Dissiptors is a bit of additional weight that comes with the extra gas system parts but SIONICS has managed to keep this one relatively trim at 6 pounds, 15 ounces. New Products from ALG Defense: Sidewinder Muzzle Brake and 6-Second Mount

ALG Defense rolled out two new products today. One is new to the public but the other, the 6-Second Mount, has been shown for a long time and hotly anticipated.

The Sidewinder muzzle brake is machined from 17-4PH stainless steel to fit ½”-28 threaded 5.56 barrels. This muzzle device has a very unique appearance and shape that is born out of function. From ALG Defense:

The vents are angled upward at 3 and 9 o’clock deflecting gas to the sides, away from the ground, reducing dust and debris when firing from the prone position. The vents are larger on top than on the bottom which minimize the muzzle rise of the ALG Sidewinder. The unique design reduces muzzle rise and recoil, allowing the shooter to quickly get back on target for rapid follow up shots.

It is available in a black nitride or bright polish finish and comes with a peel washer.

The 6-Second Mount was developed in collaboration with a counter-terrorism group who needed a fast sighting system for situations when their pistol was their primary weapon out of necessity. It was built for a specific purpose as described by one of the end users involved in the design:

The fight lasts 6 seconds… Either they’re dead or you’re dead, and aggression saves the day.

While slide mounted red dot sights are becoming more and more common for concealed carry, a mount like this has distinct advantages for handguns that do not need to be concealed. The advantages center mostly around the fact that the red dot does not reciprocate with the slide. First, it is much easier on the optic. Second, it prevents weakening of the side from machining. Third, the reliability of the handgun is not effected by the additional weight of red dot sight on the slide. Finally, the fixed red dot sight may be easier to the shooter to track.

The ALG 6-Second Mount in machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and designed to fit Gen 3 Glock 17, 22, 24, 31, 34 and 35.

My nightstand G17 needs one of these so badly. I even have a Micro Aimpoint laying around… this is going to be tough to resist.

New Geissele Automatics Armorers Tools

Giessele Automatics just rolled out two new pro-grade armorer’s tools.

The first is the Reaction Block (RB). The RB is designed to aid in the assembly, dis assembly, and servicing of lower receivers. It can be clamped into a vice and holds the lower securely by the receiver extension in one of four user selectable positions. The RB basically provides a super stable third hand for the user who needs to assemble or service multiple lowers in a sitting.

The second tool is an advanced version of their excellent Reaction Rod – the Super Reaction Rod. This is how it works in Geissele Automatics’ own words:

The Super Reaction Rod was designed to fulfill the need of an advanced armorer who frequently works on AR15/M4 platforms with over torqued, seized or Loctited barrel nuts. The Super Reaction Rod works by pre-loading the barrel extension lugs to the lugs of the Super Reaction Rod to eliminate movement created by adding torque to the barrel nut while at the same time fixing the upper receiver in place. Having the barrel extension mated to the Super Reaction Rod lugs and fixing the upper receiver before torqueing will remove stress that could be placed on the index pin. This allows the armorer to place tremendous torque on the barrel nut to assist in breaking seized nuts loose. The Super Reaction Rod’s pre-loading system can also be removed to allow it to work just like a standard Reaction Rod, which allows upper work to be performed in a 360° both vertically, and horizontally.

Basically, you get all the performance of the original Reaction Rod but with the ability to fix the upper in place which is a must for high torque applications to prevent damage to the index pin or the notch that mates with it.

Magpul Product Releases – MBUS Pro LR Rear Sight, M-LOK Paraclip Sling Mount, and QDM

Magpul likes to drop in and rock my socks off every other week. They rolled out three new products this week including the MBUS Pro LR Rear Sight, M-LOK Paraclip Sling Mount, and QDM Quick Disconnect Sling Swivel.

The MBUS Pro LR Rear Sight is just like the MBUS Pro Rear Sight that you already know and love except for the addition of a dial-a-distance knob. That’s right. It has an elevation knob on the rear sight that is calibrated for bullet drop at a various distances. It still has a similar footprint/size as the original and the dual aperture system is still in place.

The M-LOK Paraclip will be a hit with those who like to use HK style hook, MASH Hooks, the Magpul Paraclip, and other similar sling attachment hardware. It features steel construction, M-LOK compatibility, and comes with all necessary mounting hardware.

The QDM Quick Disconnect Sling Swivel is a fresh new look at the ubiquitous QD sling swivel. It uses very clever side release tabs rather than a button and is fully Melonite processed so rusted QD swivels are a thing of the past. This is very, very cool.

Weapon Outfitters 13.7″ TRACK Barrel

Weapon Outfitters has been a leading advocate for the 13.7″ AR-15 barrel for a long time now. Barrels of that length can be a great way to take advantage of the length of permanently attached muzzle devices like the B.E Meyers 249F or Noveske KX5. Weapon Outfitter’s latest 13.7″ barrel looks great on paper and it is worth a look for your next build.

The 13.7″ TRACK Barrel is a medium contour barrel that is constructed from 4150 Chrome Moly Vandium steel and Melonite processed for durability and corrosion resistance. It features a 1 in 7″ twist with a ~~Wylde chamber. Wylde chambers are good to go with .223 or 5.56 spec ammo and can usually squeeze a bit more accuracy out of both.~~ Correction: It is a 5.56 chamber.

These barrels use hybrid polygonal rifling by FJ Fedderson. Polygonal rifling usual give a bit more muzzle velocity due to a tighter gas seal and that tighter gas seal also allows Weapon Outfitters to go a bit smaller on the gas port which is a nice bonus.

The patented hybrid polygonal rifling allows these barrels to use smaller than normal gas ports thanks to superior gas seals, and this method of rifling has been used to set accuracy world records.
