Oneiros Valley MEAN Pad

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the Mystery Ranch NICE Frame. I love its flexibility, modularity and versatility, but it is shorter and flatter through the back than I prefer. Thankfully, Oneiros Valley is around to make me fall back in love with my NICE Frame with their line of ergonomic improvement add-ons.

The latest of these add-ons is the MEAN Pad. The MEAN Pad is a bulked up lumber pad that serves 3 purposes. First, it adds additional padding in the lumbar region which makes it fit the typical user’s back better. Second, it prevents the pack from sliding around via a patch of non-slip material. Finally, it can actually tuck under the ballistic plate in your carrier, providing a bit of a stand-off, to make wearing a pack with body armor more comfortable.

The MEAN Pad is adjustable for thickness via foam inserts. It is made from 500D nylon and features quality ITW Nexus hardware. I have been working with their LLP Gen 2 and OV Belt Guides for review and they are excellent so I have every reason to believe the MEAN Pad will be excellent too.

The MEAN Pad is available for pre-order now. It will ship in January.

Bladder Koozies

My friends at Beez Combat Systems recently mentioned Bladder Koozies on their blog and I am glad they did because they are a great idea. If you use hydration bladders, you know that cold drinks don’t stay cold for long and I suppose you would have the same issues with hot drinks but I have never tried.

Bladder Koozie

The HydrationTubeCovers.com Bladder Koozies are pouches made from 4mm neoprene that serve to insulate and protect the Camelbak Antidote bladder. They have only two openings – one for the fill cap and one for the hydration tube. The bladder is folded and inserted through the fill cap hole in order to install it in the Koozie.

Check out the Bladder Koozies at HydrationTubeCovers.com.

I should also note that these will fit inside the Beez Combat Systems Hydration Carrier Short.

Mission Spec EOC

The new Mission Spec Essentials Only Carrier (EOC) is pretty well stocked with features for a minimalist plate carrier. It is designed to be trim enough to conceal under a jacket but also offer some modularity with its full PALS coverage front and back. The plate pockets are constructed from 1000D Cordura nylon construction with spacer mesh backing and are designed around a medium SAPI cut plate.

The cummerbund design is very clever. It features 2 simple webbing straps with side released buckles on each side. The straps are not only adjustable for length but their ride height can also be adjusted. It not unusual for a rear plate pocket to sag too low on the wearers back when the front plate is adjusted to ride high on other plate carriers. The EOC’s adjustable cummerbund design looks like it could compensate for the sagging rear plate issue.

The EOC is currently available in Black and Multicam with other colors coming soon. Check out the EOC at Mission Spec.
