V7 Weapon Systems really, really doesn’t like heavy AR-15s. They are continuing their crusade against excess AR-15 ounces with the announcement of their new Titanium AR-15 Barrel Nut. The new barrel nut is made from grade 5 titanium and is made to mil-spec dimensions. It weighs just 22 grams compared to the roughly 37 gram weight of a normal steel barrel nut.

When it comes to shotguns, I train with them and I enjoy using them for some applications but, within the context of home defense, there aren’t many things I can do with a shotgun that I wouldn’t rather do with a carbine. That is why I prefer to keep my shotguns fairly simple and affordable. It just isn’t worth it for me to pump a lot of money into them.
Simple and affordable is exactly what the new TALO edition of the Mossberg 500 is. I have had great luck with Mossberg 500s with my admittedly light firing schedules and so, in the interests of keeping the cost to a minimum, they are generally what I use as my go-to shotguns. TALO’s newest distributor exclusive model is basically all you need in a Mossberg 500 and very similar to how I configure mine.
It is lightweight and maneuverable thanks to Mossbergs relatively lightweight 18.5″ barrel, aluminum receiver, and their 5 round tube magazine (5 + 1 capacity). It features a bead sight which I generally prefer for a home defense shotgun. Best of all, it comes with a shorter 13″ length of pull stock installed from the factory.
This looks like a simple, well thought out, and affordable (retail is around $270) home defense shotgun. All you need to do is stoke it with some Federal reduced recoil buckshot with the Flight Control wad and figure out how you prefer to mount a light to it.

You may know First-Light for their innovative and unique line of angle head tactical lights, like the Tomahawk and Liberator, that are made to work with you while you grip a firearm. There newest addition, the TORQ series of lights, is their most affordable yet but it still packed with the features that make First-Light unique.
The TORQ series lights run on 2 AA batteries which is a departure from their other lights which are powered with CR123A batteries. These lights are made from polymer and feature a swiveling head that allows the light to be mounted to your gear and aimed where you need it for hands free use.
Like First-Light’s previous offerings the TORQ lights feature secondary lights in various colors that are suited to different tasks. All of the light’s modes, like the 155 lumen constant output, strobe, and secondary colors are accessible through a multi-button interface.
TORQ also has a number of available accessories including MOLLE, belt, and magnet mounts for hands free use.

AGP Arms makes some of the coolest 10/22 accessories on the market. Their take down kit, which turns a standard Ruger 10/22 into a lightweight, return-to-zero, take-down rifle is a prime example of this. The kit is now available in Hunter Orange which is an ideal color for a survival rifle. I typically don’t care for brightly colored guns but in this case it serves a purpose and actually looks nice (though I would probably skip the orange muzzle device).

The Brothers of Bushcraft designed BOB Knife has been a smash hit for TOPS Knives and for good reason – it is a great knife. I own one and it strikes a great balance between cutting performance and durability thanks to its somewhat unique modified “Scandi” edge and large, hand filling handle. There have been several iterations of the BOB Knife so far, all of them featuring a powder coat finish in various colors.
Many users find that the coating reduces cutting performance and just ends up rubbing off during some common tasks like batoning.
