HSGI Costa Padded Leg Panel

If you like the concept of the original HSGI Costa Leg Rig but you wish you could change the pouch configuration to suit your needs, I have good news. HSGI has just released a PALS compatible version of the Costa Leg Rig called the Costa Padded Leg Panel.BAM_1442_750x497

It has the same 2 point mounting system that sits just below the belt line as the original. It also retains the light padding of the original. The difference is that this model features a 3 row by 6 column PALS field so that you can attach which ever compatible pouches you want.

Midwest Industries MI-SSK-12 KeyMod Hand Guard

Midwest Industries just introduced the newest KeyMod hand guard on the market – the MI-SSK-12 KeyMod Hand Guard.

MI-SSK-12 KeyMod Hand Guard

These new hand guards are similar in size to the previously reviewed MI SS-G2. They retain the slim 1.5″ OD that made the SS-G2 great and the 12″ model shown weighs only 8.5 ounces including the barrel nut!

The MI-SSK-12 features 5, yes 5, different QD sling swivel sockets. One on each side fore and aft, and one on the forward bottom. It also features 12 KeyMod attachment points on each side and the bottom (36 total).

I am hoping that the barrel nut is the same as on the SS-G2 rails because I would love to try one of these on one of the carbines that I already have the SS-G2 installed on. EDIT: I confirmed with Midwest Industries that this does use the same barrel nut. That is great news for those of you who already have an SS-G2 rail.

These will be available in 3-4 weeks. Check out Midwest Industries.

Sneak Peek: Gear Sector Modular Free Float Tube

Every piece of gear that I have ever laid hands on from Gear Sector has been very functional and well designed which makes it easy to be intrigued by their upcoming Modular Free Float Tubes for the AR-15.

Here is what we know: they will support a line of modular bolt-on accessories and they will be relatively light weight. The 7″ carbine hand guard weighs just 5 ounces (without barrel nut). They are made in the now common, slick sided configuration. These are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Surefire F04-A Beam Diffuser

The new Surefire Ultra models have tremendous 500+ lumen output with a beam profile that has a fairly tight hotspot. That hotspot may be tighter than you want for some applications, especially if you are using your light indoors. The new F04-A is a beam diffuser that slips onto the 1.125″ diameter bezels of the Surefire Ultra lights. It uses a high grade optic diffuser lens to spread the beam of your light into a wall of light.

Surefire F04-A

I have been using the Surefire F04 (the original 1″ version) for years. There is some light lost to the diffuser but it is minimal. This would be ideal for a Surefire Scout Ultra or Surefire X300 Ultra that is mounted on a carbine that is used for home defense.

If you want a broader, more diffused beam for your Surefire Ultra, check out the F04-A Beam Diffuser.

Counterfit Rainier Arms Raptor Charging Handle

A wise man once said “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” but in the case of AR-15 parts, imitation is often the quickest way to breakage and failure – not to mention the fact that it is theft.

Fake Raptor CH

The knock-off charging handle is shown with overlapping yellow text.

Rainier Arms has done us all a favor by pointing out a counterfeit of their Raptor charging handle. You can see two telltale differences in the image above that can help you identify a fake. First, the two latch handles are similar in size on the counterfeit product while the genuine Raptor has 2 different sized latch handles. Second, the counterfeit uses different roll pins that don’t fold over on themselves.

Rainier Arms recommends only buying their products direct from Rainier Arms or from authorized dealers like Brownells.com. You can also check the Rainier Arms Facebook page to see them name unauthorized dealers that you should avoid.
