I do a lot of dry fire training. It is a very convenient and inexpensive way for me to train things like reloads, draw stroke, trigger control, malfunction clearance, and more. I recommend that everyone do dry fire practice with one caveat – go through the motions with an emphasis on getting it right because you can actually create bad habits that go unnoticed until your next live fire training due to the lack of feedback during dry fire training. Next Level Training is trying to take some of the uncertainty out of dry fire training with their line of SIRT Dry Fire Training Pistols.
The SIRT Dry Fire Training Pistol looks and feels much like a Glock 17. Great care has been taken to make the weight and balance of the SIRT similar to that of the Glock. However, instead of a barrel and action parts, the SIRT contains 2 visible lasers – one that is actuated by trigger take up and one that is actuated by the trigger break. The SIRT Dry Fire Training Pistol can not fire live ammunition so it is an exceedingly safe way to practice anywhere.
The laser that is actuated by the trigger take up can be turned on or off. It is useful for training sight alignment while moving, trigger control during take up, follow through, and more. The laser that is actuated by the trigger breaking is brighter than the take up laser and it is designed to give the shooter immediate feedback as to where the shot would have struck the target.
NLT also has weighted training magazines available that can help shooters train their reloads. Each SIRT Dry Fire Training Pistol comes with one weighted magazine and others are available for purchase.
Check out both versions of the SIRT Dry Fire Training Pistol on the Next Level Training website – the SIRT Pro has a brighter Red/Green laser set up that is suitably bright for all lighting conditions including outdoor training and the SIRT Student has a Red/Red laser set up that is suitable for indoor training. They also have an AR-15 product coming out that replaces the bolt and carrier. It turns your AR into a laser trainer with a resetting trigger.
