PIG Full Dexterity Tactical Glove

Finding the right shooting glove is a never ending quest for some, including myself. That is why I am excited to try out the new Full Dexterity Tactical (FDT-Alpha) Glove from SKD Tactical’s PIG line.

It often seems like there is very little thought or effort into making most “tactical” gloves. In fact, it seems like companies do little more than add the word “tactical” to the label. SKD has taken a ground up approach to build a glove that excels at the tasks that will be asked of a glove like this. While other companies add more layers, more padding, and rigid materials to their gloves, SKD is making things thinner, lighter, and more flexible (SKD acknowledges that this comes at the cost of some durability). Even in the places that the glove is padded for protection, it is thin padding designed just to take the edge off of impacts while still allowing excellent movement.

This may sound silly, but I am excited to see that these gloves have para-cord loops and a nose wipe area on the back of the thumb. The loops make it easy to stow the gloves on your gear and the nose wipe is great for those cold days on the range. These two items may not be cool but they are practical and often overlooked features.

Pictures have been showing up now and then of these gloves on various online sources. These gloves have already been in the hands of some serious users who have been putting them through their paces. The feedback that I have seen has been universally good.

SKD calls these the FDT-Alpha because these are just the first in a series of gloves. Look for FR (flash resistant) and touch screen compatible models soon. I am hoping they can come up with a decent water-resistant cold weather glove too.

Beez Combat Systems 762 Chest Rig

Lately, it seems like there is a new 7.62×51 battle rifle on the market every time you turn around and I am not complaining. It is about time we started to see wide spread availability of next generation battle rifles like the FN SCAR, LaRue PredatAR, and LMT MWS. Along with new rifles, comes the need for new support gear. Beez Combat Systems (BCS) has you covered with their new 762 Chest Rig.

The 762 Chest Rig is based on their other low profile designs but is scaled to work with just about any 7.62×51 magazine on the market (M1A/M14, FAL, AR-10, SR-25 Pattern Mags including Magpul, and others). Each of the pouches is individually sewn into the rig to keep the magazines quiet. This design gives the user a massive, uninterrupted span of MOLLE webbing across the front of the rig. BCS claims that this is the lowest profile 7.62x512mm chest rig on the market.

BCS offers an H-harness unlike any other I have seen. The user can purchase it in one of two different configurations. One configuration is the typical type that you adjust before you don the rig. The other configuration allows the user to pull the straps on the harness forward which means it can be adjusted while the user is wearing it.

As you might expect, the 762 Chest Rig is constructed from 1000D nylon and is available in a number of colors and camo patterns including the new A-TACS FG pattern. It retains the magazines via shock cord (bungee) pull straps and features an internal map pocket.

This rig may be low profile but it doesn’t lack features. Check it out on the BCS Blog and on the BCS website.

Beez Combat Systems SVD Chest Rig

One of the best things about smaller gear companies is that they can take on less mainstream projects. Beez Combat Systems (BCS) is a shining example of that with their SVD Chest Rig.

The SVD Chest Rig is a collaboration between BCS and Marco Vorobiev, a Spetsnaz Dragunov marksman who has emigrated to the USA and teaches DMR tactics with Behind Lines. This rig will work with many different ComBloc DM (designated marksman) type rifles like the the SVD, PSL, M76, and the Saiga 308. It draws some very obvious inspiration from the well known Russian Chamelion SVD chest rig but it is far from a stitch by stitch copy.

10 magazine version shown in A-TACS camo

The design of the BCS SVD Chest Rig replaces the spotting scope pouch of the Chamelion with PALS webbing so that the wearer can add pouches like a blow out kit or radio pouch. The magazines are retained via an elastic pull tab system that will hold one or two magazines per pouch. You can choose between a 6 and 10 magazine version of the rig and choose your harness style (“X” or “H”). The 6 magazine version replaces the pouches with additional PALS webbing.

The biggest improvement is the construction quality. BCS uses far better materials (1000D nylon) and attention to detail than the original Chamelion rig can ever hope to have. BCS also offers a wider array of colors including all the standards as well as A-TACS, A-TACS FG, and even Russian Surpat.

The SVD Chest rig is available on the BCS website. You can read more about it and see a video review on the BCS blog. I don’t own an SVD, but this chest rig makes me wish that I did.

FirstSpear Missing Link

Gear makers often make two different versions of the same pouch – one that is MOLLE compatible and one that can be mounted directly to a duty/gun belt. The Missing Link from FirstSpear does away with the need for two different types of pouches.

The beauty of the Missing Link is its simplicity. It is just a small section of webbing with hook Velcro on one side and loops at each end that allow it to be slipped onto the integral MOLLE straps on the back of a pouch. This creates belt loops that lock the pouch in place on a Velcro lined belt like a duty belt or gun belt.

The Missing Link is patent pending and comes in packs of 6. You can read more on the FirstSpear website.
