The Kingfisher Machete from Baryonyx Knife Co.

There are machetes and there are MACHETES. The Kingfisher Machete from Baryonyx Knife Co. is definitely the later. This purpose built machete is a whole lot of steel for the price.

From Baryonyx Knife Co.:

A machete purpose-built for standing strong in uncertain times. Machetes have long seen use across the globe in times of crisis, but until now none have been designed expressly for this purpose. The distal-tapered high carbon steel blade is rigid and unyielding to pressure, and is long enough to offer advantageous reach while remaining short enough to be manageable in cramped quarters. The point of balance is just 3.5″ in front of the American hickory handle, which features a full-length grip below the finger notch to accommodate small or large hands alike. Intended to be as economical as possible, so that you may feasibly afford to outfit an entire group, the Kingfisher is not furnished with a sheath, and is ripe for customization to make it uniquely yours.

The Kingfisher Machete is available for pre-order now BaryonyxKnife.com.

Baryonyx Knife Co. Premium Sharpening Stones

There is no shortage of sharpening stones on the market but finding good quality at an affordable price is somehow still difficult. The most commonly available axe pucks aren’t great. Most field or pockets stones aren’t great. Many coarse stones leave a lot to be desired. Thankfully, Baryonyx Knife Co. has branched into the sharpening business and they are taking it very seriously.

Their growing line of premium sharpeners is excellent. I’ve tried their Artic Fox Field Stone and Sportsman’s Puck. Both cut quickly and leave a surprisingly polished edge. They both hold water well too which is nice considering my previous puck needed to be soaked for at least 30 minutes before using it which isn’t exactly convenient for quick touch ups.

The line includes several general purpose stones and a couple of specialized ones like the Artic Fox Scythe Stone. It may have been designed for scythes but don’t let that scare you away from a useful stone. People have been using stones of that shape to sharpen machetes, lawn mower blades, and other longer edges for years.

I highly recommend that you check out the Baryonyx Knife Co. line of Premium Sharpeners.

Flat Grind Mora Knives from Baryonyx Knife Co.

Everyone likes Mora knives because they are such a great value but not everyone likes maintaining their “Scandi” grind edges. Baryonyx Knife Co. is now offering Moras that have been reground with full flat grinds. The knives are still very affordable but now they have increased cutting performance and a grind with which more Americans are familiar.

I should also mention that Baryonyx Knife Co. is one of my favorite places to buy cutting tools. They inspect each and every item that they carry before selling it to ensure that everything is as it should be. They also offer a very affordable “Special Grade” service on most items which means that they will regrind the cutting edge to improves its performance. These services are especially nice for items like machetes which often come unsharpened or axes where you have to be concerned with things like grain orientation.

Check out the full flat grind Mora options at Baryonyx Knife Co. The available selection changes periodically.
