KAK SUPER SIG SB-15 Pistol Buffer Tube

I have been watching KAK with a lot of interest since they came out with their original Sig SB-15 Pistol Brace specific buffer tube, the KAK AR-15 SIG SB-15 Pistol Buffer Tube. One thing kept me from trying that buffer tube and that was its requirement to use a modified end plate. Apparently I am not the only one who felt this way and, obviously, I am going to have build another AR pistol because they have now released the KAK SUPER SIG SB-15 Pistol Buffer Tube which has a more streamlined design than the original, is slightly longer (a good thing for AR pistols), and uses a completely standard castle nut and end plate.

It retains the shoulder feature of the original. This shoulder is machined into the tube and is the key to the KAK SUPER SIG SB-15 Pistol Buffer Tube’s functionality. It serves as a hard stop to prevent the SB-15 from sliding forward. It also serves as a stop for the spacers that KAK is now offering to be used to adjust the length of pull of your SB-15.

If you are building an AR pistol and intend to use an SB-15 Not-A-Stock, check out the KAK SUPER SIG SB-15 Pistol Buffer Tube.

Basic Banshee Plate Carrier

The Shellback Tactical Banshee Plate Carrier is now available in a new, lower profile configuration called the Basic Banshee Plate Carrier. It is just like the regular Banshee Plate Carrier except it comes with the internal cummerbund only. The external cummerbund is not included. This saves weights, saves cost, and makes it ideal for those who won’t use the external cummerbund anyway. If you don’t need the additional MOLLE real estate and don’t use side plates, this is the Banshee for you.

Armageddon Tactical GMS-15 Gen I Charging Handle

I have an Armageddon Tactical GMS-15 Gen I Charging Handle in hand for review and I am very impressed so far. It has a lot to offer in terms of functionality and it is fairly innovative in terms of design.

armageddontactical_gms15

Suppressor owners will like the GMS-15 for its special gas port and chamber. The port runs up diagonally from the underside of the charging handle to redirect the excess gas into a chamber on the handle. The chamber is a large, semi-circular void that is shaped in a way it contains the gases and slips slightly over the top of the receiver to form a better seal. It’s far simpler than it sounds.

The GMS-15 is ambidextrous in that it can be operated from both sides of the AR-15. However, you should note that it’s design requires tension on the charging handle so it will not release when pulled from the ejection port side on a locked back bolt. On the first pass that sounds like a big deal but it was accounted for with the addition of a fairly large textured button (for lack of a better term) that when pressed, provides the tension necessary. This is the only time this “button” is needed and it is fairly intuitive in its use.

The most exciting thing about the GMS-15 is it’s robust construction and mechanical nature. While other charging handles attempt to overcome the shortcomings of roll pins, the GMS-15 removes them from the equation entirely (they are present but not in any sort of load bearing way). The entire handle moves back on the shaft via a robust internal mechanism. Its rearward travel is stopped, not by a roll pin, but by a large rear lug and the internal structures.

Most of the GMS-15 is machined from billet 7075 aluminum and the latch machined from heat treated 4140 steel. The aluminum components are finished with a Teflon impregnated hard anodized finish which, according to Armageddon Tactical, ” produces a durable non-reflective surface and reduces the coefficient of friction between moving parts”. The latch is Mag Phosphate finished.

I will be continuing to work with the GMS-15 to see how it holds up and how well the gas mitigation functionality works. So far, I am very impressed. The one fly in the ointment is the locked back bolt issue but a left-handed friend felt that this was overcome easily enough that he is very interested in spending more time with it.

PWS DI Uppers

PWS is well known for their piston AR-15s. Now they are throwing their hat into the direct impingement (DI) ring.

PWS_DI_Uppers

Their DI uppers share many of the same features with their piston uppers like extended length KeyMod rails, QPQ (nitriding) processed barrels, and they are topped off with one of PWS’ great muzzle devices. The barrels have a 1 in 8″ twist and they feature a .223 Wylde chamber which should help a bit with accuracy while also handling 5.56 spec ammo.

The MAP for these uppers is $699 which isn’t bad considering what you get. That is especially true for the 14.5″ version since pinning and welding a muzzle device usually costs extra.

Shadow Ops Weaponry Custom AR-15 Lowers

Do you want an AR-15 lower with a roll mark that pokes fun at the latest moronic thing some anti-Bill of Rights politician said about guns? How about a lower with your business’ logo? Maybe you want a lower that is engraved with a likeness of your teacup poodle? We won’t judge and neither will Shadow Ops Weaponry.

They can customize just about everything about your lower including the color (Cerakote), laser engraving or deep etching, selector markings, serial number, caliber markings, and your NFA trust markings. The process is straight forward and you could have a lot of fun with something like this. They aren’t inexpensive but nothing manufactured in a one-off, on demand way ever is.
