IC13 F.A.T. Airsoft Training Targets

Airsoft is interesting as an alternative to dry fire for a number of reasons. The ability to shoot projectiles inside the spaces where you actually live is one of the most attractive of those reasons… right up until it is time to pick up all those tiny pellets. The new F.A.T. series of targets from IC13 mitigate the mess with a combination of targets, stands, and a trap that catches the pellets.

From IC13:

Let’s face it, dry-fire is super boring.  While dry-fire is extremely effective, the reality is that its just not fun, and therefore we don’t do it nearly as often as we should.  The FAT (Firearms Adaptable Training) Target is a simple, convenient, and FUN way to practice your draw, trigger press, reloads, and any other firearms mechanic in your own home, with the use of an airsoft gun.  Airsoft guns are available as clones for just about every major make and model of handgun and assault rifle, making them the perfect platform to train with indoors.

The cardboard target itself is based on a “C” zone IPSC target, with printed “A” zones.  Inside the “A” zones are printed triangles (head and body) and a vertical line (body only) for segmenting.  These give you the ability to focus on the fundamentals or allow you to shoot our drills, or create your own.  The back side of the target is white, for use as “no shoots” in multiple target scenarios.

The trap portion is directly behind the “A” zones to catch BB’s from good hits, and features a door on the right side that slides open, allowing the BB’s to roll out into the trash receptacle of your choice with ease.  Add the optional FAT Challenge Cover to make it more difficult.  The Challenge Cover leaves only the printed “A” zones open.

When you’re ready to get back to the range, be sure to take some of our FAT Live Fire Targets, which feature the same scheme as the airsoft targets so you can see how you’ve improved.

Want even more?  Stage multiple targets for scenario based training, like a shoot house!

Installation is a breeze!  The trap comes bent out of the box.  Use any basic mounting solution (picture hook, drywall anchor, etc. – not included) to hang on your wall, or install on our FAT Stand.  The cardboard target has slots in it that easily mate with the trap.

Simple Theory Gear Pack Stove

The Pack Stove, from Simple Theory Gear, is a clever and subtly different take on the twig stoves that now quite common on the market. Many twig stoves pack flat by hinging or separating into individual flat pieces in order to take up as little space as possible in your pack. The Pack Stove takes a different approach, nesting on a pot or water bottle, in order to take up even less space and require less setup.

The cylindrical shape of the Pack Stove allows it to nest on many common water bottles or cook pots like the excellent and affordable Stanley Adventure Cookset. This allows it to be stored in a water bottle pocket on your pack, which is space already occupied by your cookpot or bottle.

The stove is basically always ready to use. There is almost no assembly or take-down other than installing or removing the grate if required for your pot. The grate stores on the bottom of the stove when not in use.

The Pack Stove can also be used with alcohol burners and fuel tabs. Its weight is on par with steel flat-pack twig stoves at 11.5 ounces.

Forward Controls Design RHF4 11.5

Forward Controls Design (FCD) is now offering a unique version of the excellent Centurion Arms C4 Rail with a number of changes based on FCD’s input and preferences.

Per Forward Controls Design:

RHF4 11.5 is a 11.5″ quad rail hand guard based on the successful Centurion Arms C4 rail system.  It is a lightweight, rugged, 2 piece free float rail that provides a continuous 12 o’clock rail when installed on the upper receiver.  Like the C4 system, RHF4 is a rigid rail that clamps to a standard barrel nut on all AR15, M4, and M16 type weapons systems. This design allows the installation of the rail on an upper assembly without removing the front sight post or permanently attached muzzle devices.

RHF4 incorporates Forward Controls design input: Omission of built-in QD swivel attachment points.  Some like the now common front and rear located QD sockets, we prefer the location of the front sling attachment be left to individual users.  A BCM rail mounted QD sling adapter is included (the QD sling adapter can be removed in the drop down menu if you don’t need it, or already have one, please see the QD sling adapter drop down menu).  The rail numbers are machine engraved, and a subdued Cygnus is engraved on the right side of the RHF4.

Hill People Gear Pocket Frame Sheet

Hill People Gear is now offering HDPE frame sheets that are precut for their pockets like the Pals Pocket, Admin Pocket, and Tara Pocket. It also fits packs like the Tarahumara and upcoming Junction Pack. These sheets are a simple and inexpensive way to make these pockets more comfortable when used as a standalone pack.

The sheets add some stiffness to the pack which helps it hold its shape instead of rounding when stuffed and helps prevent the wearer from feeling odd-shaped cargo pressing through the back of the pack. You can also find other uses for them once you are in camp like a cutting board or a way to keep dry tinder off a wet ground.

I previously used a Tarainsert for the same purpose. It adds a significant amount of organization capability but costs and weighs more. The new HDPE inserts are certainly a simpler, less expensive option.
