Bullpup Shoot 2012

Jerking the Trigger was able to attend Bullpup Shoot 2012 at Rock Castle Shooting Center and we had an absolute blast. We were able to put hands on tons of cool stuff and talk with a lot of people who are passionate about bullpups. Stay tuned to JTT for the next couple of days as we cover all the news from the shoot.

The Bullpup Shoot was organized by Jon P at BullpupForum.com. He did a great job of pulling everything together and he was a gracious host. If you have even a passing interest in bullpup firearms, you need to get to one of these events!

Rat Worx USA has a shooting station set up with some full-auto fun. They were selling ammo dirt cheap and donating proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project.

A new AUG A3 with US made receiver was available to shoot.

Military Arms Channel was one of several media outlets on hand for the shoot including Range Time with Cory & Erica, FPSRussia, Funker Tactical, and others.

Many vendors were in attendance to share their latest and greatest wares.

VEPR 12 Russian Shotgun Pre-Order

Move over Saiga, there is a new Kalashnikov based 12 gauge shotgun option – the VEPR 12 Gauge Shotgun. If you know AKs, you know that VEPRs are some of the finest AKs made and, unlike the Saiga 12, the new VEPR 12 Guage Shotgun won’t need to be “converted.”

These will come decked out with original MOLOT furniture (grip and hand guards), a competition magazine well, a hinged top cover with picatinny rail for optics mounting, an extended lever, and a chrome lined chamber, bore, receiver shaft, and gas chamber. They will also come with a 5 round magazine.

While these are firmly aimed at the 3 Gun Competition market, I suspect that many will purchase them for home defense. Pre-order yours today at Atlantic Firearms.

AK Muzzle Brake from Damage Industries

Muzzle brakes can go a long way toward lightening recoil but many of them can also go a long way toward lightening your wallet. The new AK Muzzle Brake from Damage Industries claims to be able to tame muzzle rise while still keeping your wallet lined.

The design is pretty standard. It features a large expansion chamber and 2 ports on each side. Damage Industries claims that it both reduces muzzle flash and reduces recoil. It is black oxide finished and 14-1 left hand threaded.

It may be that the most interesting feature of the AK Muzzle Brake is its price. At only $17.95, it appears to be a pretty good deal if it lives up to its claims. Check out the AK Muzzle Brake on DamageUSA.com.

Lancer LSX Carbon-Fiber Shotgun Extension Tubes

Everyone knows that carbon-fiber makes everything cooler and that includes shotgun extension tubes like the upcoming Lancer LSX Carbon-Fiber Shotgun Extension Tubes. While carbon-fiber is pretty cool, it is even cooler when it is functional. Any weight you can trim from the muzzle end of a firearm will typically reduce fatigue and improve handling.

Umbrella Corporation Weapons Research Group Rifle Grip

As a result of an injury, I often have numbness in my fingers if I have to cant my wrists too much for a prolonged period while shooting. I have found that utilizing an AR-15 grip with a more vertical grip angle can really alleviate this numbness. I have been actively looking for an AR-15 grip that has a more vertical grip angle, relatively compact, but still hand filling which is how I came across the new Umbrella Corporation Weapons Research Group (UCWRG) Rifle Grip.

The more severe angle of most AR-15 grips worked well with the more bladed shooting stances that were popular when the rifle was developed. However, modern stances call for the shooter to be mostly square to the target with their elbows held in tight to the body and the rifle seated lower and closer to the center line of the shooter. In these modern stances, a more vertical grip is ergonomically correct and requires less wrist strain to use.

The UCWRG Rifle Grip has a noticeable resemblance to the Magpul MOE grip and MOE-K grip which makes sense because UCWRG consulted with Magpul to create this grip. Magpul’s involvement bodes well for any plastic product that is intended to be mounted on an AR-15.

I like to stipple the gripping surfaces on many of my firearms, so I was especially interested to see that UCWRG left the surface of their Rifle Grip smooth. They state that they do this to allow the user the freedom to apply their own texture.

I think that the most attractive thing about the UCWRG Rifle Grip is its combination of features and price. It is relatively compact but unlike other compact grips, it builds out behind the receiver which is a positive for users with larger hands. It also has the previously mentioned more vertical grip angle and comes with mil-spec mounting hardware. The grip, hardware, and packaging are all made in the USA and will retail for around $20.

These grips will be available shortly at Rainier Arms. You can learn more about the grip and UCWRG on their Facebook Page. The UCWRG website is coming soon.

I will be reviewing these grips in the future, so stay tuned.
