Victory Tactical Gear Banshee Defender System

VTG Banshee Defender System

Our friends at Shellback Tactical have partnered with Victory Tactical Gear (VTG) to offer a package deal, the Banshee Defender System, that includes two of VTG level IV stand-alone plates along with a Shellback Tactical Banshee Plate Carrier. The package sells for $480. I haven’t seen any formal testing of these plates but, for what it’s worth, the anecdotal accounts of their performance have been good. I can also relate that the Banshee is a reasonably comfortable PC for stand-alone plates, even single curve plates like these, since the plate pockets are padded.

MSM Logo MultiWrap

Mil-Spec Monkey recently introduced their MSM MultiWrap. I have have used similar products for years and found them to be very useful as a head covering in both cold and warm weather.

MultiWraps, and other similar products, are basically just a tube made from thin, stretchable polyester fabric. You’ll find tons of different ways to wear them depending on the conditions your find yourself in. They wick moisture fairly well and insulate just a bit when it is cold. The material is thin enough and flexible enough that they fold into a very small space.

I paid a lot more for several of these from a different brand. It is hard to imagine a more versatile piece of gear for $5.50. Check out the MSM Logo MultiWrap.

High Ground Quick Release Waist Belt and Assault Strap

The Quick Release Waist Belt and Assault Strap from High Ground is a pretty slick idea. High Ground designed a way to turn the hip belt from their line of packs into a modular battle belt. This all works because of the Assault Strap which clips into the belt to fill the void left by the pack with usable PALS webbing space.

This design also comes with a very welcome side effect – the belt becomes completely modular. You can purchase as many of the Assault Straps as you like so that they can be configured with different load outs. You just remove one Assault Strap and install another as your mission dictates.

GT Cobra Series Buckles from ITW Nexus and AustriAlpin

The AustriAlpin Cobra Buckle has become a staple in the tactical gear industry. It is used extensively in gear like belts, slings, and even packs and bags. Cobra buckles are so easy to use and cool looking that they are often used in ways that are complete overkill and that is exactly why I expect the new GT Cobra Series Buckles will be a huge hit.

ITW Nexus GT Cobra Series Buckles

The new, all polymer GT Cobra Series Buckles are the result of a collaboration between AustriAlpin and the leader in plastic hardware, ITW Nexus. It will be manufactured right here in the USA.

There isn’t a speck of metal in the GT Cobra Series Buckles and it still boasts a 500 pound-force tensile load. The plastic construction will keep costs down, make less noise, weigh less, and allow the colors to more closely match other plastic hardware (Black, Tan 499, Coyote Brown, Foliage Green). They will be available in 1.5”, 1.75”, and 2.0” sizes and both slider and loop versions.

I suspect that if the price is right on these, you will start to see them integrated into an even broader range of products than the 7075 aluminum Cobra Buckles. I can’t wait to see where these turn up. Check out ITWMilitaryProducts.com.
