I’ve been carrying a bandana or handkerchief in my back pocket for years. They are such an indispensable item for me that I am tempted to put this in The EDC Tool Roll series. I can dry my hands when the restroom is out of paper towels, wipe my brow, blow my nose, keep sun off my neck, keep my phone’s screen dry when playing Pokemon Go with the kids in the rain, and so on.
I used to just buy whatever was hanging on a peg at the local big box store. Those cheap bandanas would shrink badly, bleed color when washed, and often they seemed to just flat refuse to absorb anything. Fortunately, a local clothing shop near me carries Hav-A-Hank brand and I was able to give them a try.
These are better than any bandana I’ve had before. First, they are made in the USA which you won’t find in any discount big box store. Second, the cotton they use is more crisp and absorbant which I really like. The size is great at 22″ square, they well for back pocket carry, and they do not seem to shrink as much as cheap bandanas. These are just better than anything else I have tried.

A 100% cotton bandana has been part of my EDC since my first trip to the sand box. It can be a do-rag or toilet paper, can be wetted and put under your hat (or around your neck) to cool your brain, can be an air filter for your face in event of sandstorm, a filter for water, coffee, or contaminated fuel, fire starter in absence of twigs or dried grass, fuse for a Molotov cocktail, cut up into cleaning patches if you get caught short, as a pot holder, to silence something that’s got rattly at an inconvenient time, a bandage in case of small bleeds, a turkeynet in case of worse bleeds, and you can use it to wipe the other guy’s blood off your blade (which you should do ASAP because that shit is severely corrosive).
I can’t understand why Ron Popeil never sold them.
If I’m carrying a pocket pistol or folding knife in a back pocket, I put a bandana in that pocket and to the rear of the item, leaving it sticking out an inch or so above the hem of the pocket to shield what’s in the pocket from prying eyes.
And BTW, I LOVE that sgian dubh, I just can’t make myself love it $450-worth.

That is a wing that Harry’s Holster is making. It’s excellent – very comfortable. I’m hoping they make it available soon.
