“Groucho” Hybrid MOLLE/ALICE War Belt System

Think a war belt/battle belt/MOLLE belt has to be expensive? Think again.

The Old Grouch’s Military Surplus is offering what they call the “Groucho” Hybrid MOLLE/ALICE War Belt System and it looks like a very functional start to a war belt – just add pouches.

The Groucho consists of a MOLLE 1 Belt that has been slightly modified and ALICE Suspenders. The MOLLE 1 Belt ensure full MOLLE compatibility so you can mount a huge variety of modern pouches. The ALICE Suspenders help support the weight. It’s a simple concept executed with proven gear at an affordable price. Your belt rig may not get the most likes on Instagram but your gear will work and your wallet will still be well padded.

Kudos to The Old Grouch’s Military Surplus for putting together functional and affordable packages like this.

Old Grouch’s Military Surplus Tactical Pack Cover with Rain Hood and Improved Military Poncho News

Old Grouch’s Military Surplus has introduced two new items to accompany their Improved Military Poncho (see previous post).

The first is a longer version of the Improved Military Poncho. The “Tall” version measures 94″ compared to the standard 82″ of the regular version. The poncho is a full 12″ longer and has an additional row of snaps but the spacing on center remains the same so that both the regular and tall version can be snapped together when used as shelter halves.

They have also worked with the manufacturer of their ponchos to create the Tactical pack Cover with Rain Hood. This is a water resistant cover that can be fitted to your pack via a drawstring and elastic strap. It also has a head and shoulder hood that can be pulled up and over the wearer. It covers in such a way that gear on the chest like chest rigs or items on your armor are still accessible. It is available in two sizes based on the size of your pack.

Old Grouch’s Military Surplus Improved Military Poncho

What do you do when you are a military surplus vendor who laments the increasing scarcity of real surplus ponchos and the influx of cheap, imported ponchos? If you are Old Grouch’s Military Surplus, you start making your own poncho that is even better than the original.

These ponchos look pretty excellent on paper. They are using improved materials like nylon webbing throughout the entire hem rather than cotton canvas webbing just at the grommets. They have improved the hood and are using the latest style of snap. They use brass spur grommets instead of washer grommets. The result of all these improvements is a poncho that is stronger and more rot resistant than the original.

I am just scratching the surface here so I strongly suggest that you check out the Improved Military Poncho at Old Grouch’s Military Surplus and watch their video below.
