Sneek Peak: MI AK KeyMod Hand Guard
Midwest Industries will be bringing a KeyMod compatible version of their AK Universal Handguards. The handguards feature KeyMod mounting holes on the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock sides and 5 integral QD sling swivel sockets (2 on each side and one on the bottom). This new version of the Universal Handguard weighs only 8.7 ounces and will be compatible with MI’s optic specific top covers.

MEGA Arms will be releasing the 5.56 version of their MKM (MATEN KeyMod) upper receivers in the next few weeks. The MATEN system is very, very slick. It is basically an upper receiver with a built in interface to accept a proprietary free float rail. The design creates a very rigid rail system that rivals truly monolithic upper receivers.
The rails feature the KeyMod attachment system and come in four lengths:
- 14″ extended rifle length – $485 MSRP
- 12″ rifle length – $462 MSRP
- 9″ mid-length – $431 MSRP
- 7″ carbine length – $400 MSRP

Parallax Tactical KeyMod AR-15 Rails
KeyMod fans will soon have even more options for rails. Parallax Tactical is in the process of finalizing their line up of KeyMod rails. They will be producing 7.2″, 9.2″, 11.5″, 12.2″, 13″, 14″, 15″, and 18″ length rails so you will have no shortage of options whether you have a low profile gas block or a fixed front sight base.
These rails will have a very slim 1.52″ outside diameter and weigh less than 1 ounce per inch of rail. These rails should be available in 2-3 weeks.

Strike Industries AK TRAX Hand Guard Rail System
The word modular gets tossed around loosely when it comes to firearm parts. In the case of the new AK TRAX Hand Guard Rail System from Strike Indsutries, I would say it fits well.
The AK TRAX Hand Guard Rail System is a new hand guard system for AK family of weapons. It consists of two main parts – the TRAX1 and TRAX2. The TRAX1 replaces the standard hand guard and gas tube cover. It is a stand-alone unit that can be used with or without its top rail section. The TRAX2 is an extension to the TRAX1. It can also with used with or without its top rail installed. This modular approach makes it possible to install the TRAX Hand Guards in four different configurations.
The use of the KeyMod attachment system at 3 and 9 o’clock further enhances the modularity of the TRAX. The availability of KeyMod accessories like rail sections, light mounts, and sling mounts continues to expand which should make this system even more versatile.
