Gunstruction just announced that their version 4.0 patch is now live on all platforms (free on the web, paid expansion on iOS and Android). This new version is one of the largest expansions of the virtual firearm building tool yet with tons of new parts for the AR-15 and AR308 sides of the house. However, the biggest news is the release of the R700 (Remington 700 based rifles) build tools including parts from McMillan, Krieger, Badger Ordnance, and more.
It’s the early days of August and that can only mean one thing. It’s time to look back at the July User’s Choice Build from Gunstruction.
Gunstruction compiles the most popular parts from each category in their virtual AR building tool into a single User’s Choice Build every month. These builds are always an interesting look into consumer trends since Gunstruction’s user base and part selection are fairly broad.
This month’s build has a new category. A weapon light is included for the first time – the Primary Arms Ultimate Weapon Light Gen. II. Magpul continues to be popular for the grip, magazine, and stock categories. The currently unreleased BAD Trigger makes its first appearance and, of course, EOTech continues to dominate the optic space in Gunstruction.
It is also interesting that a 10.5″ barrel (Faxon Firearms) is featured. As far as I can tell, a 16″ or longer barrel has never been the most popular barrel in Gunstruction. Every User’s Choice Build barrel has been 14.5″ or shorter.
Gunstruction‘s version 4.0 patch will be released any day now. It has been submitted to Apple for approval and once Gunstruction receives the go ahead, they can push the update to all platforms.
This update will be one of the most significant boosts in Gunstruction’s functionality to date. It will contain a smattering of new AR-15 parts and 2 new photo rooms but the big news is the introduction of the R700 platform (Remington 700 based actions, barrels, etc) building tools.

Every month I chronicle these builds and every month I write about how they still feature EOTech sights in spite of the issues that have been exposed with them. It has become clear that Gunstruction user’s just prefer EOTech or they are trolling me. There is heavy Magpul representation in this build as usual. Virtual SBRs also seem to be becoming more popular. Whether or not that is translating to people actually building real SBRs is not apparent.
You can already use Gunstruction to build virtual AR-15s and AR308s. Soon, you will be able to build virtual bolt-actions based on the Remington 700 action and its broad aftermarket. Gunstruction announced today that they are finalizing their R700 building functionality and it will be included in their next update!
