Labor Day

I hope you have a restful Labor Day. While you are grilling and enjoying family, take a moment to think about those who are deployed away from their families, unable to take a day off.

Happy Labor Day from Jerking the Trigger.

Give Terror the Axe Patches and Wrist Bands

You may remember the Give Terror the Axe Foundation that I profiled recently on this blog. You can read more at the link but basically, Give Terror the Axe is a foundation that raises the funds necessary to provide the axes and tomahawks that our Special Forces groups want and need. Now in an effort to raise funds, they have released a limited edition patch and a silicone wrist band. Purchasing these items not only raises funds for the foundation but awareness as well.

The patch is limited to 100 pieces. It features an ACU gray and black flag design with an axe graphic and the words “Give Terror the Axe”. 100% of the profits will go into the foundation. The patches cost $15 and are available through the Usual Suspect Network (This link requires a premium membership on the USN.

The silicone wrist band is made from 100% recycled silicone. It features a foliage green and black swirl color scheme and the words “Give Terror the Axe” embossed on the band. The wrist bands cost $10 and are available through the Usual Suspect Network (This link requires a premium membership on the USN).

If you are not a premium member of the Usual Suspect Network, you can get in touch with Give Terror the Axe on their new Facebook page. Go to the “Info” page to find Shawn’s email address (he is the founder of the foundation).

Patch Collecting: 8.6.11 Tribute Patch from ITS Tactical

Normally, these patch collecting posts are a lot of fun but this one is going to be far more somber. 30 members of the Special Operations Community (22 of which were Navy SEALs) were killed by an RPG attack on the Chinook helicopter that they were flying in on August 6th, 2011. This represents the largest loss of life in a single day since Operation Red Wings. 30 families lost husbands, fathers, and brothers and our country lost 30 of its finest fighting men.

ITS Tactical has quickly stepped up to help the families of these 30 heroes. They have designed a patch that will serve as a remembrance of that costly day and a fundraiser that will help the families that were directly effected by this tragedy. The proceeds from this patch will be donoted to the Navy SEAL Foundation.

The following is ITS Tactical’s description of the patch:

These custom 100% embroidery patches measure 3.5″ wide x 3.5″ tall and feature a gold VI and 23 stars for men and lone K-9 of DEVGRU and Naval Special Warfare who fell. The 31 with the black band symbolizes the 31 members of the combined efforts of the Naval Special Warfare Command, Army National Guard and the Air Force Special Operations Command who gave their lives on August 6th. The red star marks the location in Wardak Province, Afghanistan the QRF (Quick Reaction Force) Chinook was struck with an RPG.

You can read more about the patch on ITS Tactical and it is available for pre-order in their webstore.

TOP SHOT 3

I have to admit that I really like TOP SHOT. I didn’t really know much about until I came across it on Netflix a few months ago and watched the first episode of the first season. I think I finished the rest of the season in about 2 days.

We are now on the brink of the 3rd season of TOP SHOT. The season premier will run on History Tuesday, August 9th at 10PM/9PM central time. I was contacted by the folks at History and they passed along this information about the coming season:

HISTORY’s hit competition show is back with a gauntlet of all new extreme challenges and eager marksmen ready for a shot at greatness.  16 competitors chosen from across the country vie for the $100,000 prize and the title of TOP SHOT.  A national revolver champion, two homeland security agents, a former Navy SEAL, firearms instructors, a restaurant owner and a camp director must demonstrate their skill using the most diverse weapons, from state-of-the-art firearms to rocks.  This season also stars some of the biggest weapons ever featured on TOP SHOT such as the Gatling and Hotchkiss Mountain Guns.  Colby Donaldson returns as host for the competition that takes a page from history.

The 14 marksmen and two markswomen were carefully selected from thousands of applicants to participate in this season of TOP SHOT. The contestants include a national revolver champion, two homeland security agents (who also happen to be close friends), a former Navy SEAL, two cops, a nurse and several firearms instructors. Two of the contestants, a restaurant owner and Christian camp director, are self-taught.

The shooters will have to display mastery of weapons from all eras of human history, from the most primitive (rocks) to the most sophisticated tactical firearms. Contestants will employ some of the biggest munitions ever featured on TOP SHOT, including the Gatling gun, the Hotchkiss mountain gun and the CornerShot. In addition, they must endure extreme physical tests to stay in the game. High-speed HD cameras capture the skillful execution of each test in extreme slow-motion.

The premiere of season three begins with a gauntlet of extreme challenges. 16 marksmen immediately pair off and duel with one of the world’s biggest handguns. Teams are then divided into winners and losers before facing off in a surprise military challenge. In the elimination challenge, two competitors get the ride of their life on a horse-drawn stagecoach as they shoot to stay in the competition.

You can head over to the TOP SHOT Facebook page or the TOP SHOT website to keep up with all the latest news about the show.

Disclosure: I was contacted by HISTORY and provided with information for this post.
