Microtech Defense Industries ACM 7.62-25 Magazine

I plant my magazine on the deck as often as possible in order to get as stable as possible when shooting from the prone position. Standard 20 round 7.62 NATO magazines are just too short for this technique. 25 round magazines, however, work well but, unfortunately, there really aren’t many 25 round 7.62 magazines available.

Microtech Defense Industries ACM 7.62-25

Microtech Defense Industries is on the verge of releasing their ACM 7.62-25 Magazine. This polymer, SR-25 pattern magazine features a 25 round capacity, aggressive texturing, a corrosion resistant spring, over-travel prevention ridge, and a high visibility follower. More and more 7.62 chambered ARs are utilizing the SR-25 pattern magazine so it is exciting to see a product like this coming to market.

Interesting New Sling Mount from Strike Industries

Strike Industries Sling Mount

Strike Industries is showing an interesting new sling mount. It has some fairly standard features like a QD swivel socket and a loop for use with MASH and Snap hooks but the real story is the unique form factor that gives it an extremely low profile. It is so low profile that it actually sits flush with the top of the very rail that it is mounted to. I think this design has a lot of merit and should be useful for mounting slings in otherwise hard to mount places like under the objective end of an optic.

MSAR XM Series AR-15 Magazines

MSAR’s XM Series AR-15 magazines had some significant issues when they were first introduced. However, they have been through a handful of revisions since and MSAR is very excited about the current generation of magazines. My experience with the previous magazines was very limited but I really liked the handling characteristics of these magazines with the aggressive crosshatched texturing and flared baseplate. I like the form factor enough that I am very interested in the latest revisions.

Soon there will be 40 more reasons to be interested in these magazines. MSAR will be releasing a 40 round capacity version.

Geissele Developing TAVOR Trigger

DSC_0326

JTT contributor Eric H. putting some of the very first rounds through a TAVOR in the USA.

I was among the first people in the United States to put hands on a commercial TAVOR at Bullpup Shoot 2012. Like most bullpup designs, it has a trigger with room for improvement. It sounds like Geissele Automatics, who knows a thing or two about improving triggers, may be coming to the rescue. They are currently developing a TAVOR Trigger that will be similar to their excellent SSA trigger. It will be a two-stage design with 2.5 lb first stage and a 2 lb second stage.

RUGER SR-762

I have been impressed with the Ruger SR-556 carbines that I have been able to handle and shoot. The one that Dann at God, Gals, Guns, Grub owns has been reliable through nearly 3000 rounds, is very accurate, and is fairly well appointed right out of the box. If only Ruger had chosen a better twist rate and a rail system that was user replaceable!

Ruger SR762

Now word is out that Ruger is releasing a 7.62×51 chambered AR called the SR-762 and it looks pretty good on paper. It has their 2-stage piston system with 4 position gas block much like the SR-556. The cold hammer-forged Mil-Spec 41V45 chrome-moly-vanadium steel barrel is fluted to reduce weight (8.6 pounds is not too shabby). I am relieved to see that they went with the SR-25 pattern magazine so the rifle is compatible with PMAGs.

If the SR-762 has a street price that is sub-$2000, is as accurate and reliable as its little brother, and Ruger can get them onto dealer’s shelves, they could have a real winner on their hands.
