Unity Tactical Monkey Bar

Unity Tactical just released the latest addition to its excellent Fusion line. The Monkey Bar is a replacement clamp for the Magpul MBUS Pro front sight that provides a forward cantilevered, Fusion compatible mounting location.

The Monkey Bar offers direct connect functionality for the Surefire Scout Weaponlights and can also accept various Fusion accessories like 1913 rail sections (Using the Offset Rail), 1” or Executive Series Ring Lights (Using the FUSION Ring Mounts) or Surefire ™ Millennium Series Lights (Using the Millennium Series Adapter).

It adds only .2 ounces to the overall weight of the MBUS Pro thanks to its 6061-T6 construction (with hard anodized finish). This light weight, coupled with the fact that it renders a stand alone light mount unnecessary makes this a very lightweight mounting solution.

The Monkey Bar is currently in production and will be available at the end of April.

Kinetic Development Group SAS – Scar Adaptable Stock System

SCAR owners must be ecstatic to see the arrival of Kinetic Development Group, a manufacturer devoted entirely to developing accessories for the FN SCAR (at least initially). Their latest piece of SCAR kit is the SAS or Scar Adaptable Stick System.

From Kinetic Development Group:

Just a few months ago, Kinetic Development Group launched its company with the promise to bring solutions to the small arms market for high quality firearms. They started with the FN SCAR as many SCARs are deployed with our Special Operations Forces.  They also recognize the 16S and 17S are increasingly popular with American shooters and law enforcement.

Their first products, the MREX (modular rail extensions) for the front end of the SCAR has been very popular.  The KDG front and rear sling points have also brought the SCAR into the year 2015 as far as QD sling solutions go.  Well, they have just addressed another common complaint about SCAR.  Some refer to it as the SCAR’s “UGG Boot” like stock system.  The KDG S.A.S (SCAR Adaptable Stock) is a serious improvement on the SCAR OEM stock system.

Form…. Why is this solution a near perfect marriage of a very well designed and reliable rifle and the excellent ergonomics of the Magpul ACR stock?   It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to compare the two stocks and decided which is more robust.  MagPul is famous for their reinforced polymers and most would argue nobody can beat them at their game.   There are many empirical reports from the field complaining about broken SCAR stocks.  To add to that strength is the KDG SAS coupling that is made of 6061 T6 aluminum billet that is black hard coat anodized.  That not only reinforces the stock, but also the open rear end of the SCAR’s thin extruded U-shaped receiver.  And to top it off, the KDG SAS assembled stock system weighs approx. ¼ pound less than the all polymer factory SCAR stock assembly!

Fit & Function… All SAS kits come standard with 7 positions of length adjustment, cheek weld height adjustment, an AMBI QD sling attachment point, a weatherproof battery compartment, and a side-folding feature. Like the factory stock, the weapon can be fired with the stock folded. KDG also added an optional set-screw to allow users the option to eliminate any play between the stock and receiver.

Aesthetics – There are many SCAR owners that are simply not fans of the factory SCAR stock. Its clunky feel and look take away from the amazing rifle they just purchased. The new SAS not only improves the function of the SCAR rifle, it looks a hell of a lot better as well.

Finally, the stock and adapter comes fully assembled from KDG. There are no tools required to install on your SCAR! The whole system retails for $299.00 and will be available for purchase at www.kineticdg.com or a dealer listed near you found on their website. www.kinetidg.com/dealers

Elite Tactical Systems Group Glock 19 Magazines

The announcement of Elite Tactical Systems Group’s (ETS) impending entry into the 9mm Glock magazine market didn’t come with as much fanfare as the similarly timed Magpul Glock 17 magazine announcement. That is a shame because the ETS offering has a lot of potential and the trump card of being nearly completely transparent.

Also lost in the shuffle was the fact that ETS will be bringing out Glock 19, Glock 26, and 33 round versions of their mags. They are already testing the Glock 19 version and showing images of the test mags so hopefully we can expect to see them on the market soon. I am looking forward to having lower cost alternatives to factory magazines!

New 13.7″ AR15 Barrel Option from Weapon Outfitters

Apparently Weapon Outfitters will not rest until I build an AR-15 with a 13.7″ barrel. As if it wasn’t already hard enough to resist the siren song of a short, light, and handy barrel that has basically no flash when coupled with a permanently attached BE Meyers 249F flash suppressor, now they have released one of their most affordable 13.7″ barrel options yet.

These are Faxon Firearms barrels (which I have had very good luck with in limited testing) that have been cut and threaded by Parallax Tactical. They have a midlength gas system, 5.56 chamber, 1 in 8″ twist, and government profile. The barrels are machined from 4150 steel and Melonite QPQ finished inside and out.

At just over $200, they look like a great place to start a build. Check out the new 13.7″ barrels at Weapon Outfitters.

Aero Precision AR-15 Lower Gen. 2

Aero Precision’s stripped lowers are already my go to lower for AR-15 builds because they are a great value. The introduction of their generation 2 stripped lowers brings with it two new features that may make them an even better value.

APAR501101-ar15-stripped-lower-gen2-anodized-2

The AR15 Stripped Lower Receiver, Gen 2 offers a tension screw hole that is used to tighten the fit between the upper and lower receiver. It also offers a more flared magazine well. The magwell flare is a great improvement over most forged lowers. I know of very few forged lowers that are flared to this extent, especially at this price.

Other than the two new features, they have everything else I like about the Aero Precision lowers like pictogram selector markings, no outlandish rollmarks, and 7075 aluminum construction with hard anodized finish. They haven’t reinvented the wheel and that is a good thing because these lowers still retail well under $100.
