KE Arms KE17 and KE19 Delta Glock Slides

The NP3 was barely dry on the new Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie Glock slides from KE Arms before they rolled out a fourth model. The new Delta KE17 and KE19 Slides share the same feature set with the Charlie Slides including an integral RMR mount and plenty of serrations to improve manipulation. However, the Delta Slides go a step further by including lightening/cooling slot in the design of the forward serrations.

The Delta Slides are available for both Glock 17 and 19 compatible firearms and with three different finish options: NP3, Black Melonite, and Stainless Steel. Check out the Glock products page at KE Arms for details.

Midwest Industries Gen 2 AK Extended Handguard

Midwest Industries (MI) recently teased the release of a new extended AK handguard design and it generated some significant interest on this site. The wait is now over for at least some of the models of the new MI Gen 2 AK Extended Handguards.

MI has released the M-LOK version with a railed top cover and the M-LOK version with an Aimpoint Micro specific top cover. The M-LOK/Trijicon MRO version and all KeyMod versions are not available for purchase yet.

As expected, the installation looks to be very easy on these 11.5″ long handguards with no permanent modifications necessary to the host gun (something that can’t be said for most extended AK handguards). The hard coat anodized, 6061 T6 aluminum construction and MI’s patented clamping system should make these more than durable enough for hard use. The weight of just 16 ounces is perhaps most impressive.

Loctite QuickStix

If you are a shooter, you should be familiar with threadlocking compounds like Loctite. Recoil has a sneaky way of messing with fasteners on your gun. If you don’t want the fasteners to back out of your grip, scope mount, free float rail, Glock front sight, or any other critical part that has threads, then you need threadlocker.

LOCTITE 248 QuickstixThreadlocking compounds like Loctite are a necessary evil. On one hand, they save you time, money, headaches, and maybe even your bacon by prevent critical fasteners from failing. On the other hand, the same properties that help them penetrate threads on fasteners also help them leak out of their own container coating everything in your tool box with an oily, stinky, sticky mess… Not any more!

A good friend (thanks Publius) and long time reader of JTT turned up this gem and passed it along to me. Loctite is available in glue stick form! That’s right, the Loctite formulas that we all love are now available in an ultra-easy to deal with, no leak, semi-solid, glue stick form that Loctite calls QuickStix.

There are at least two formulas that you should have in your kit, Medium Strength Blue which is what you use for most applications and High Strength Red which is used less commonly. I haven’t found these locally but they are easily available online.

If you do a lot of shooting and a lot of your own gunsmithing, I hope this brightened your day as much as it brightened mine. You can tell I’m excited because I just wrote 5 paragraphs and more than 260 words about thread locker!

Gunstruction July 2016 User’s Choice Build

It’s the early days of August and that can only mean one thing. It’s time to look back at the July User’s Choice Build from Gunstruction.

Gunstruction compiles the most popular parts from each category in their virtual AR building tool into a single User’s Choice Build every month. These builds are always an interesting look into consumer trends since Gunstruction’s user base and part selection are fairly broad.

This month’s build has a new category. A weapon light is included for the first time – the Primary Arms Ultimate Weapon Light Gen. II. Magpul continues to be popular for the grip, magazine, and stock categories. The currently unreleased BAD Trigger makes its first appearance and, of course, EOTech continues to dominate the optic space in Gunstruction.

It is also interesting that a 10.5″ barrel (Faxon Firearms) is featured. As far as I can tell, a 16″ or longer barrel has never been the most popular barrel in Gunstruction. Every User’s Choice Build barrel has been 14.5″ or shorter.

You can view and customize this build at Gunstruction.

The popularity of custom machining work on Glock slides is exploding and a handful of companies have begun to offer Glock slide blanks as a blank canvas for this custom work. It should come as no surprise that my North Idaho neighbors, Lone Wolf Distributors, are the latest to begin offering these slide blanks. They have been in the after-market Glock slide business longer than anyone.
