Midwest Industries will be bringing a KeyMod compatible version of their AK Universal Handguards. The handguards feature KeyMod mounting holes on the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock sides and 5 integral QD sling swivel sockets (2 on each side and one on the bottom). This new version of the Universal Handguard weighs only 8.7 ounces and will be compatible with MI’s optic specific top covers.
The Midwest Industries MI-SSK-15 KeyMod is now available. This is the 15″ version of Midwest Industries’ KeyMod compatible, slim diameter, lightweight free float tubes. It weighs only 9.9 ounces which is quite impressive considering it is a 15″ rail. Check out the MI-SSK-15 at Midwest Industries.
A handful of you have emailed me about the availability of this rail. Well, here you go… The new MI-SSK-12 Rail from Midwest Industries that I wrote about recently is now available for purchase at MidwestIndustries.com.
It often seems like AR-10 shooters are left out in the cold when it comes to free float hand guards. There are new options everyday for the AR-15 but AR-10 options are few and far between. Well, I have good news. The excellent Midwest Industries Gen-2 SS Hand Guards will be available soon for DPMS pattern high and low receivers.
The 12″ high and low models (12.4 ounces) including the barrel nut) are available now by phone. They will be on the MI website soon. The 15″ models (14.3 ounces) will be available in two weeks.

Midwest Industries just introduced the newest KeyMod hand guard on the market – the MI-SSK-12 KeyMod Hand Guard.
These new hand guards are similar in size to the previously reviewed MI SS-G2. They retain the slim 1.5″ OD that made the SS-G2 great and the 12″ model shown weighs only 8.5 ounces including the barrel nut!
The MI-SSK-12 features 5, yes 5, different QD sling swivel sockets. One on each side fore and aft, and one on the forward bottom. It also features 12 KeyMod attachment points on each side and the bottom (36 total).
I am hoping that the barrel nut is the same as on the SS-G2 rails because I would love to try one of these on one of the carbines that I already have the SS-G2 installed on. EDIT: I confirmed with Midwest Industries that this does use the same barrel nut. That is great news for those of you who already have an SS-G2 rail.
