Midwest Industries KeyMod Handguard for the FN SCAR

Midwest Industries recently gave a sneak peek at their upcoming KeyMod handguard for the FN Scar. The handguard extends 6″ forward of the SCAR’s existing handguard to provide the user additional space to grip the rifle and mount accessories. It also provides a continuous top rail over the SCAR’s gas block like MI’s current SCAR SSR rail. The new KeyMod handguard is made from hard anodized 6061 aluminum and adds 7 ounces to the overall weight of the firearm.

MI AR Pistol Buffer Tube

I told you about Midwest Industries’ new line of AR Pistols and new AR Pistol Buffer Tube yesterday. I was able to round up even more details on the buffer tube and, on paper, it is pretty exciting.

The MI AR Pistol Buffer Tube is similar to other tubes on the market in that it has a shoulder for the SB15 Arm Brace to rest against in order to increase the length of pull and it uses a standard end plate and castle nut which provides several rear sling mounting options.

However, it has also 2 features that make it stand out. First, it is long enough that the rear of the tube sits flush with the rear of the SB15. This completely fills the void at the rear of the SB15 to provide more rigidity and it is long enough to bring an AR pistol with a 10.5″ barrel to 26″ overall length so you can install a vertical grip (see here for details)! Second, the tube is mil-spec diameter behind the threads which means that most clamp style rear sling mounts can be used.

This looks like a great option for those who are building an AR Pistol. Check out the new MI AR Pistol Buffer Tube at Midwest Industries.

Midwest Industries AR Pistols

Midwest Industries is set to release a line of AR-15 pistols. The pistols will feature their forged lower receivers and SS Series Hand Guards (both KeyMod and M-LOK will be available). They will also showcase MI’s new AR Pistol receiver extension (buffer tube) that is designed to be used with the SB15. The receiver extension has an integrated stop to add “length of pull” and is long enough to completely fill the void in the SB15.

The MI AR Pistols will be available soon and the receiver extension will be available separately.

Midwest Industries Forged AR-15 Lower Receivers

Midwest Industries, having already released billet lower receivers in the past, has just released a new forged AR-15 lower receiver. The new lower features 7075-T6 construction, hard anodizing, and a threaded rear take-down pin hole (handy for some types of pistol builds or those who prefer not to launch parts across the room when you remove the end plate). These lowers feature a fairly understated MI roll mark and are marked “CAL-MULTI”.

The new lowers will be available stripped or complete. Check out Midwest Industries.

Midwest Industries Lightweight Keymod Handguard

Midwest Industries‘ SSK KeyMod rails are already very light weight. Their newly released Lightweight KeyMod Handguard manages to shed even more weight by replacing the continuous top rail with KeyMod slots. The 12″ rail weighs only 8.1 ounces with the barrel nut!

Like the SSK rails, this one features 5 QD sling swivel slots. It uses the same proprietary barrel nut as the SS and SSK handguards. The top rail features a short section of 1913 rail on the front and rear portions of the rail with KeyMod slots between.

These will be available in 3-4 weeks.
