Money Well Spent

A friend of mine recently spent a little over $100 shipped on an Ares Gear Aegis Belt – a belt that I have been using for a while now and highly recommend. Another friend asked him how he could spend that much on a belt and his response was that he was tired being unhappy with a parade of $35 gun belts.

I have had that same experience with a lot of things. I became tired of dealing with stoppages during training so I bought my first quality AR-15. I became tired of axes that wouldn’t take or hold an edge so I paid for better axes and learned to restore older, quality axes. I became tired red dot sights with battery life far shorter than advertised so I purchased Aimpoints (9 and counting). I can think of many similar examples.

It seems that finding gear that works isn’t all that different than skill building. You learn a lot from the failures and there usually aren’t any shortcuts.

I am not saying that good gear has to be expensive or that inexpensive gear can’t be good. I am saying that I have learned to buy the quality and features instead of buying the price point. This is why I rarely comment on price here on JTT. The value of a particular piece of gear is up to you and can’t necessarily be determined by what it costs.

Have you had similar experiences? I want to hear about them. Leave a comment below so we can all learn!

Patriot Cases AR Pistol Foam Insert

Patriot Cases is known for their gun cases with custom cut foam inserts. Amazingly, they offer cases with custom foam for as little as $69 and that $69 case is about to get just a bit more interesting for AR pistol owners with the introduction of their AR pistol pre-cut foam.

The foam is cut to accommodate an AR Pistol with the SB-15 Brace installed and has cutouts that can be installed or removed to accommodate the configuration of your AR pistol. It also has room for 2 magazines and other accessories. The entire setup rides in a lockable, hard plastic case.

These AR pistol inserts will be available sometime in the next 2 weeks. Check out Patriot Cases.

BFG Triple M4 Magazine Pouch

These Helium Whisper Triple M4 Magazine Pouches from Blue Force Gear (BFG) are left over from a production run for a specific client with a specific set of needs. They needed a bomb-proof pouch with secure retention for the front of their plate carriers so BFG built the entire pouch out of their ULTRAcomp material and added full size flaps. This pouch is trim, light, and completely Armageddon-resistant.

They are only available in limited numbers so don’t dillydally!

Strike Industries Venom Flash Hider

Strike Industries claims that their new Venom Flash Hider is among the most effective on the market and they have released video that appears to show favorable performance compared to one of the best known flash suppressors available. The Venom has a 4 prong design that is less than tame. It is long enough to bring a 14.5″ barrel to a non-NFA 16″ of length when permanently attached and has a pre-drilled hole for pinning.
