It boasts plenty of capacity and acres of loop material for use with hook backed organization pouches. Check out the video below to all the bells and whistles.

MSM Large Patch Panel

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.

She had so many patches, she didn’t know what to do.

Then she found the MIL-SPEC MONKEY Large Patch Panel.

Problem solved.

MIL-SPEC MONKEY’s (MSM) latest patch panel, the Large Patch Panel, lives up to its name. This MOLLE compatible panel features almost an acre of loop material (actually its 9″ x 6″) for displaying patches and ID. It also has a large zippered pocket to make better use of all the space it will take up on your gear (10″ x 6.625″). The panel comes with 4 MALICE Clips for mounting.

This is designed by MSM and manufactured in the USA by Tactical Tailor. Check out the MSM Large Patch Panel.

MSM Zippered Key Pouch

MIL-SPEC MONKEY just rolled out their new Zippered Key Pouch – a pouch designed to make carrying your keys quieter and more comfortable. This small, zippered pouch has light padding to protect your pockets from sharp edges on your keys and to provide a degree of comfort. It features a pull cord that allows the user options for retrieving or anchoring the Zippered Key Pouch.

The MSM Zippered Key Pouch is designed by MIL-SPEC MONKEY and manufactured in the USA by Tactical Tailor.

MSM Boss Beaver

MIL-SPEC MONKEY just released his latest pack design – the MSM Boss Beaver. If you liked the Adapt Pack, but wished for something a bit bigger, this one may be for you.

The MSM Boss Beaver’s layout is similar to the Adapt Pack with a few key additions. The most noticeable is the massive “beaver tail” on the front of the pack. The Monkey had two design goals with the beaver tail to correct shortcomings he has seen with other packs. First, he designed the beaver tail so that it could be held tightly to the pack when it was not in use. Second, the beaver tail doesn’t prevent access to any of the compartments.

The Boss Beaver is made in the USA by Tactical Tailor. I am really just scratching the surface of this pack’s features so I strongly suggest you check out the video below and then check out the MSM Boss Beaver at the MSM Store.

MSM Inserts

Mil-Spec Monkey has released two simple, new Velcro backed inserts. Both are made in the USA by Tactical Tailor. They are affordable and designed for versatility so it doesn’t cost you are arm and a leg to make use of the loop lining in your bag or pack.

The MSM GP Insert has three pockets for organizing gear. The two billowed pockets on the front are sized for things like cell phones, GPS units, small notepads, and similarly sized items. There is a slip pocket behind the billowed pockets that can be used for items that are flat in shape. The MSM GP Insert measures approximately 6.5″ x 6″.

The MSM Multitool Insert features 3 billowed pockets. It is designed to hold items like flashlights, multitools, pistol mags, folding knives, and similarly sized objects. The MSM Multitool Insert measures approximately 6.5″ x 4.75″.

MSM Urban Grey – 3D Testing

Mil-Spec Monkey is still hard at work testing the various shades of grey in an attempt to identify the most versatile Urban Grey. In the most recent round of testing he moves past 2 dimensional color samples and into 3 dimensional, real-world objects. If nothing else, this sort of testing highlights the difficulty in selecting a single shade to match as many background as possible. Check out the Monkey’s efforts at Mil-Spec Monkey.

MSM Dives DEEPER in to Urban Grey

Last week we shared a project that Mil-Spec Monkey has been working on in order to find the most versatile shade of grey possible for urban environments. He recently published the second installment of the article (bottom of the page). It is a short read and worth a look.

I will be really interested to see if any manufacturers are paying attention to the Monkey’s work.

Review: MSM Wrap Holster and Wrap Multi Pouch

I have used a number of Velcro backed holsters and magazine pouches over the years. I have even made my own. The most versatile that I have found to date are the Wrap Holster and Wrap Multi Pouches from MILSPEC Monkey (MSM).

MSM’s Wrap accessories are pretty simple and both the Holster and Multi Pouches share a common feature set. They are made almost entirely of Velcro One Wrap which is magical stuff that sticks to itself like… well, like Velcro. This is the secret to the Wrap accessories’ versatility. You can basically origami your way into any shape you need to carry whatever you want by simply moving the parts around to fit the payload.

Each Wrap accessory also comes with a bungee retainer that is easy to add, remove, or adjust for length.

Observations from Use

The use of One Wrap for these accessories works out so well. One Wrap makes these pouches incredibly adjustable and extremely versatile because of all the different ways you can configure them. All of that is great but what really surprised me (in a good way) is that One Wrap is somewhat rigid – more rigid than what many universal holsters are made from. That rigidity makes it extremely easy to draw and reholster because the Wrap accessories hold their shape. It really is a very good material for this application.

The Wrap Holster is excellent for use with handgun mounted lights. Few universal type Velcro backed holsters work well with lights. Many will allow them to fit but unless they holster is long enough and rigid enough, the light or front sight will snag on the bottom of the holster during the draw. Again, the slight rigidity of the One Wrap material is a boon here as it prevents the light from being accidentally activated in your bag.

The Multi Wrap Pouches work for handgun magazines of just about any length. They are ideal for longer magazines from full-size handguns. If you have a shorter magazine (Glock 19 and shorter), you will have be careful to draw the bottom of the pouch very tight to limit how deep the magazines sit. MSM may want to consider a shorter version in the future but I was able to make them work.

I was able to configure the Wrap Holster to work for everything from a Glock 21 with light to S&W J-frame in terms of handguns. You can set the retention as tight or loose as you want. You can easily set the Wrap accessories tight enough that you don’t need the bungee retainer for most items though it will be more difficult to insert the item. The Wrap Holster also works very well for AR-15 magazines, cell phones, Altoid tin style survival kits and other small containers, smaller battery backups for your electronics, GPS units, communication handsets, and more.

The Wrap Multi Pouches are dynamite for handgun mags, multi-tools, flashlights, Snickers Bars (You’re not yourself when you’re hungry!), and more.

Wrap Up

The Wrap Holster and Wrap Multi Pouch are as versatile as any piece of gear I have tried. One Wrap is a great material for this application in obvious ways and in ways that I didn’t envision until I tried them. MSM hit these out of the park.

MSM Wrap Holster

We recently showed you MIL-SPEC MONKEY’s versatile Wrap Multi Pouches. The Monkey is now offering a well designed holster that is designed and constructed in a similar way. The MSM Wrap Holster is made from One-Wrap material which makes it compatible with Velcro lined bags and, most importantly, completely user adjustable for various types of handguns with and without lights.

The MSM Wrap Holster is deeper than typical Velcro backed holsters which reduces the chance of snagging the front sight as the gun is removed. This is true even if you are using suppressor height sights in conjunction with a slide mounted RDS. It comes with a removable, elastic “jump strap” and can be used to carry other items like AR-15 mags, smart phones, and more.

MSM Logo MultiWrap

Mil-Spec Monkey recently introduced their MSM MultiWrap. I have have used similar products for years and found them to be very useful as a head covering in both cold and warm weather.

MultiWraps, and other similar products, are basically just a tube made from thin, stretchable polyester fabric. You’ll find tons of different ways to wear them depending on the conditions your find yourself in. They wick moisture fairly well and insulate just a bit when it is cold. The material is thin enough and flexible enough that they fold into a very small space.

I paid a lot more for several of these from a different brand. It is hard to imagine a more versatile piece of gear for $5.50. Check out the MSM Logo MultiWrap.
