RE Factor Tactical and High Speed Gear NVG Counterbalance Pouch

Question: What happens when RE Factor Tactical and High Speed Gear get together? Answer: Good things if you use a helmet mounted night vision setup.

The new NVG Counterbalance Pouch is now available. This pouch was designed by RE Factor Tactical and manufactured by High Speed Gear. It is designed to carry an ANVIS battery pack along with two removable parkerized steel plates that weigh .45 lbs each. The plates are included. The ability to add and remove the plates allow the user to customize the balance of their helmet. The pouch also features space for additional small items and loop Velcro coverage for patches and ID.

New Belt Mounted Pouches from HSG

HSG has introduced new belt mounted versions of their Mag-net Dump Pouch, Pogey Pouch, and Soft Taco. The addition of these pouches to their existing line of belt mounted Taco pouches means that it is now possible to build an entire belt rig with HSG’s pouches.

HSG Plate Carriers

It is good to see High Speed Gear back in the plate carrier game. There was a time when the Weesatch and its derivatives were the hot carriers on the market but that was years ago. Now, with the introduction of their new MPC and SPC carriers, they are coming back to relevance in an innovative way.

HSG’s approach to their SPC and MPC is modularity on a level that I am not sure we have seen before. Both plate carriers start with the same basic, slick, plate pocket chassis. The SPC is offered as a more slick, low-profile option and the MPC as a more modular, load-bearing option. The MPC’s MOLLE compatible cummerbund is actually HSG’s excellent Sure Grip repurposed with an adapter to work as a cummerbund! The front panel can be run slick or with the new HSG Chest Platform mounted on the front as a cummerbund flap. Both the Sure Grip Belt and Chest Platform can also be utilized as stand-alone gear when you don’t need a plate carrier.

We have certainly seen effective ways to integrate plate carriers and chest rigs before, but HSG’s new approach seems to take modularity to a whole new level. Check out the SPC and MPC at HSG.

HSG Tactical Cooler Panel

I can’t explain it rationally and I’m not sure how I would use it, but when High Speed Gear announced the HSG Tactical Cooler Panel for Bison Coolers, I could barely resist. These things are just too cool.

The panel snaps directly to the front of the cooler via seven snaps. It has a massive PALS field for attaching pouches and plenty of loop Velcro for attaching patches. It available for Bison’s 50 and 70 quart coolers.

The HSG Tactical Cooler Panel is available from Bison Coolers.

High Speed Gear SB15 IFAK Pouch

High Speed Gear gave the world a sneak peek of a new IFAK pouch that they are working on via their Instagram. The pouch is designed to hold the essentials for treating a gun shot wound in an envelope compact enough to ride in between the flaps of an SB15 Stabilizing Brace.

The initial reaction has included no shortage of internet law “experts” and BATFE tea leaf readers that have already declared it illegal and a bad idea. However, they don’t know that High Speed Gear is well aware of the potential implications of this pouch and are working through the proper channels to ensure everything is on the up and up. If everything goes well, it could be approved and ready for release by SHOT show.

I can only speculate but, if I was going to create such a pouch, I would design it to ride in the brace only during transport. If an end user were to leave the pouch in place while shooting the pistol, that would be using the pouch in a manner other than it was intended.

Kudos to High Speed Gear for at least trying. Hat tip to F3 Tactical for the tip.

The New and Improved TACO

HSGI improved taco

HSGI’s TACO magazine pouches are already pretty good. I use them on my MOLLE belt so I can switch easily between AKs and ARs without much fuss. These improvements are subtle but welcomed.

From HSGI…

SWANSBORO, NC –  26AUG2014 – High Speed Gear is pleased to announce of an improvement to our TACO® line of pouches.  All TACO® pouches that utilize an injected molded bracket will have the following improvements implemented.

  • Each bracket is now 1/8th inch longer creating higher feed ramps for easier indexing and reinsertion of magazines.
  •  Increased the size of and beveled the eye hole for easier tension adjustment.
  • Adjusted the proportion of all edges and corners

The bracket is one of the most crucial and unique parts of our TACO® pouches.  It keeps the pouch open when empty and allows the user to index magazines for easy reinsertion.  By improving the bracket, it will allow for improved performance. Implementation was made across the board and the polymer material utilized retains the same strength as previous versions.

Extended TACOs from High Speed Gear

Normally when I super-size my tacos, I just end up with heart burn. When High Speed Gear super-sizes their TACOs, you end up with versatile pouches that can handle many of the extended rifle, shotgun, and pistol magazines on the market. They have now introduced extended (deeper) versions of their pistol and rifle TACOs.

The Extended Pistol TACO should be ideal for the 33 round Glock mags, MP5 mags, ASP batons, longer flashlights, and probably even Ruger BX-25 magazines. The HCM TACO should be just the ticket for PMAG 40s and Saiga 12 mags. I currently use PMAG 40s in regular TACOs with good results but the extra depth of these would ease my mind.
