Daniel Defense Lets the .30 Caliber Cat Out of the Bag

Daniel Defense has announced the official name, release date, and specs of their previously teased AR308. The DD5V1 will launch October 23rd and it will be packed with quality features. It looks to be a real player in the AR308 market right out of the gate.

It should come as no surprise that the DD5V1 will feature a CHF barrel. Daniel Defense’s barrel are a known quantity at this point and this should be a solid performer. The new 15″ KeyMod rail features a 4 bolt connection system that ties it directly into the upper receiver. The rifle will come standard with Daniel Defense produced furniture and a Geissele SSA which is an excellent choice for an all-around .308 like this.

The controls look to be very well sorted out. The safety selector, magazine catch, and bolt release are all ambidextrous. The charging handle is an interesting latchless design that is ambidextrous and user configurable.

It should also be noted that it takes the SR25 pattern magazine. There is no excuse to build an AR308 that takes anything other than the SR25 magazine at this point.

The DD5V1 product page is already live so check it out at DanielDefense.com.

Daniel Defense Adds Kryptek Typhon

The MK12 features an 18-inch stainless steel barrel and rifle length gas system while the V11 comes standard with a 16-inch Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel barrel and mid-length gas system. The water-transfer printing process (also known as hydro-graphics) of this finish makes for a durable, uniform coating that holds up to and resists even the harshest environments.

Kryptek utilizes a multi-directional design to effectively conceal in a multitude of terrains that have lateral or vertical flows. The bi-level layering of the patterns incorporates background transitional shading and sharp random geometrical foregrounds to create a three-dimensional effect, ensuring the utmost in concealment at both close and long ranges. These components, combined with colorations selected and matched based on input from testing and observations from operators in the field, make Kryptek patterns optimal for many different situations

From Daniel Defense:

Black Creek, GA- January 19, 2015- Daniel Defense, exhibiting at SHOT Show 2015, January 20-23rd, at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, today officially announced the release of the DDM4v11 Pro Series Rifle.

Further tapping into the shooting sports arena, the V11 Pro Series Rifle encompasses the core attributes athletes search for in a competition rifle.   “As more and more consumers begin to utilize the AR platform for competition, we felt it was the right time to release this version of our popular V11,” explained Jordan Hunter, Director of Marketing for Daniel Defense. Built around an 18-inch barrel and rifle length gas system, the V11’s competitive edge also stems from the lightweight SLiM Rail 15.0, GEN II Muzzle Climb Mitigator, Geissele SD-3G competition trigger and upgraded charging handle.

“The V11 Series rifles were released back in the summer,” continued Hunter. “Not only were they an instant hit, leaving with consumers as fast as they could be placed on the racks, it left us brainstorming on ways we could expand this model.” The answer came in the form of a precision rifle with the desired components for the 3-gun stage or other recreational shooting.

Daniel Defense Releases New Aimpoint Mount and SLiM Rails

Daniel Defense released two new products today: a redesigned Aimpoint Micro Mount and the SLiM Rail.

The new Aimpoint Micro Mount looks a lot like their previous Aimppoint Micro Mount at first glance. However, this new version is set at absolute co-witness height and can achieve lower 1/3rd co-witness via a very cool magnesium alloy spacer. Like its predecessor, it is very lightweight at just 1.5 ounces (or 1.8 with the spacer).

Our first look at the SLiM Rails (Slim, Lightweight, Modular) came with the release of the DDM4v11. Now they are available for purchase separately. These rails offer KeyMod attachment points at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, continuous 1913 rail at the 12 o’ clock position, integrated QD sling swivel sockets, and the good news for Lite Rail users is that it will work with the Light Rail III barrel nut so swapping should be a snap.

Daniel Defense Expands Color Finish Options to Additional Firearms

Daniel Defense is now offering their MK12 and V11 with some new finish options. Looking sharp Daniel Defense!

From Daniel Defense:

Daniel Defense, engineering and manufacturing the world’s finest firearms, precision rail systems and accessories, today announced the expansion of their exclusive finishes, Mil Spec+™ and Daniel Defense Tornado™, to additional models.

The Daniel Defense MK12—introduced at SHOT Show this year—with an 18-inch stainless steel barrel and rifle length gas system, is now being offered in the Daniel Defense Tornado finish. The gray cerakote is not the only visual difference on this Special Purpose Rifle. The stainless steel, MK12 profile barrel has a bead blasted, chemically passivated finish that resembles the base metal. “We’ve invested a lot of man hours and capital toward development of the MK12,” noted Jordan Hunter, Director of Marketing for Daniel Defense. “The New Tornado finish and bead blasted, stainless steel barrel provide this precision firearm with a new appeal.”

“We’re also happy to publicize that the V11 is now available in our new finishes,” Hunter continued. The DDM4v11, which features Daniel Defense’s SLiM Rail™, their first rail system with the KeyMod attachment method, is available in Mil Spec+, Tornado as well as Black. “Demand since the release of the V11 has been exceedingly strong. With the encouraging response to these distinct finishes, making them available on this firearm is a no-brainer.”

Daniel Defense DDM4v11 Series Rifles, MK18 Pistol and 300 Blackout Pistol

Daniel Defense just dropped the mother load of new products!

daniel defense new products

From Daniel Defense:

Black Creek, GA- August 25, 2014- Daniel Defense, engineering and manufacturing the world’s finest firearms, precision rail systems and accessories, today announced new product releases: DDM4v11 Series Rifles, MK18 Pistol and 300 Blackout Pistol Variants.

Daniel Defense introduces the DDM4v11 series of rifles with the newly designed SLiM Rail™ 15.0, their first rail system featuring the KeyMod attachment system. “Our customers have been hounding us for a KeyMod rail”, laughs Jordan Hunter, Daniel Defense Director of Marketing. “Not only were we able to deliver, but we managed to reduce the weight. You’ll be amazed at how light the V11 feels in hand.” The V11 is available with the 16-inch Government, 16-inch Lightweight, or 18-inch Strength-to-Weight (S2W®) barrel. The SLiM Rail™, which is an acronym for Slim Lightweight Modular, will be available for individual sale at a later date.

Simultaneously, Daniel Defense is releasing the MK18 Pistol and 300 Blackout Pistol. A recent ATF ruling making it easier to possess an AR pistol, and extended approval times for NFA tax stamps, has driven demand for the pistol variant. The MK18 Pistol is very similar to the MK18 Factory SBR—popular in the law enforcement and special operations communities—with a 10.3” barrel that is classified as an SBR (short-barreled rifle) under the National Firearms Act. The 300 Blackout Pistol, chambered in 300 AAC Blackout, also comes with a 10.3” barrel. Both pistols are designed with a 1.15” Diameter Pistol Receiver Extension opposed to a Mil-Spec receiver extension and buttstock and are not NFA regulated items.

I confirmed that the SLiM Rail shown on the DDM4V11 uses the same barrel nut as DD Lite and Omega X Rails. If you already have one of those rails, you will not have to remove the barrel nut to install the SLiM Rail. You can check out the new products at their individual product pages below.

Unraveling the Daniel Defense Teaser

Daniel Defense is such a tease. Check out the image that they recently posted to their Facebook Page

Daniel Defense Teaser

There is speculation around the internet that it is .308 precision rifle but, since they refer to the teased firearm as a new “DDM4” on their Twitter feed, I doubt that is the case.

A few barrels that could be be stainless steel (or in the white carbon steel) appear in the most recent Daniel Defense video on Youtube (below). Perhaps, given the potential appearance of stainless barrels and the precision oriented optic shown in the teaser pic, the newest DDM4 will be some kind of stainless barreled light precision setup.

DDM4 V5

Daniel Defense has released the DDM4 V5. This is the 5th version of this excellent carbine that has been brought to market so far. The main difference between this and previous versions of the DDM4 is the extended free float rail. It completely covers and extends past the mid-length gas system. It is available with a cold hammer forged barrel in either standard or lightweight profile.

The DDM4 V5 comes with a host of features that make it an excellent value. The owner need only to add an optic, white light, and sling to have a well equipped carbine that is ready for anything.

New Product: Daniel Defense EZ Rails

Daniel Defense (DD) has released their EZ Rails for the AR-15. They offer a drop in fit for carbine length gas systems. These are non-free float rails at a very attractive price. Hopefully, DD will release these for different length gas systems soon.

It has been my experience that free floating is often unnecessary for most applications. If you are building a home defense carbine and using a red dot style optic, it is not really necessary to free float. Don’t spend the extra money on free float rails if the only reason you need a rail is to mount a white light and sling. Spend the money that you would have spent on free float handguards on more ammo and training!

They are available now at Bravo Company.
