Act Fast to Save Paul-E-Palooza

paul gomezPaul-E-Palooza is an annual training event, celebrating the life of Paul Gomez, that brings together some of the finest trainers in the world for two days of lectures, training courses, and more. The proceeds from the event go to a trust that was set up to benefit the Paul’s children.

This is the third year of the event and enrollment is down which is hard to understand given the caliber of the trainers slated to attend and the cost of just $300 for the whole event. Unfortunately, the number of registered students is low enough that the organizers will have to consider cancelling the event if enrollment does not improve by Monday, July 20th. I would hate to see that happen to the event and even more so to the Paul Gomez children’s trust.

The event is taking on August 15th and 16th place in Garrettsville, OH. Garrettsville is easily accessible via I80 which makes it an easy destination to reach from all over the Mid-Atlantic and many of the Mid-Western states. If you want to learn from instructors like Craig Douglas, Caleb Causey, Cecil Burch, Paul Sharp, Greg Ellifritz, Chuck Haggard, and more, you can register and pay online at PaulEPalooza.com.

KE Arms Picatinny Vice Block

I used a standard AR-15 detachable carrying handle to align free float rails during installation for years. It is a method that works fairly well. Lately, however, I have been using the KE Arms Picatinny Vice Block to align my rails. It has a few key advantages over the carry handle method that I used before. First, it costs a lot less ($9.95) if you don’t already have a carry handle (they don’t come on as many firearms and uppers as they used to). Second, it acts as a third hand to hold the upper while you tighten the rail which is very nice when you are dealing with small screws. Third, there is basically no chance of marring thanks to the block’s polymer construction.

This handy little bugger lets you lock anything with a picatinny rail into your vice so you can work on it. It is also great for holding your upper in place while you clean or install an optic or other accessories as long as you aren’t installing something that will prevent you from sliding it off the rail.

I am still finding uses for mine. Check out the KE Arms Picatinny Vice Block.

UPDATE: Several of you have been interested in purchasing just a Picatinny Vice Block but expressed concern about shipping fees. KE Arms has added a new option where you can purchase one of the blocks with a lower shipping cost built in if you are just buying a block.

Tahoma Field Knife Kydex from InnerBark Outdoors

The Tahoma Field Knife, a large fixed blade designed by Andy Tran of InnerBark Outdoors and produced by TOPS Knives, is one of the finest large survival knives on the market. It comes from TOPS with functional sheath but there is always room for improvement.

InnerBark Outdoors worked with Red Feather Gear to develop is a kydex dangler sheath for the Tahoma Field Knife. The sheath has a welt to add rigidity which is nice for such a heavy knife. It also features a closed dangler loop that can not be accidentally opened and a well formed thumb ramp to aid in removing the knife from the sheath.

Check out the Tahoma Field Knife Kydex Sheath at InnerBark Outdoors. The price is quite reasonable considering the size of the sheath.

Angstadt Arms’ plan from the beginning has been to release the receiver sets first and then move on to offering complete UDP-9 Carbines and SBRs. If you have been waiting for the receivers so you can build your own, your wait is over. If you are waiting for a complete UDP-9, you won’t have to wait much longer.

White Sound Defense 5.56 Muzzle Device Shim Kits

I ditched crush washers and peel washers years ago in favor of shims. Crush washers are too easy to install slightly crooked (which is the reason many suppressor manufacturers warn against them for suppressor mounts) and peel washers are just a pain to deal with. Shims, like the new ones from White Sound Defense, go a long way toward ensuring a straight muzzle device install and are very easy to deal with.

The White Sound Defense 5.56 Muzzle Device Shim Kits are unique in that they have a slight cone shape which helps naturally align the entire stack of shims. Each one adjusts the orientation of the muzzle device by about 1/8th of a turn. This has a natural torque setting effect, allowing you to stack your washers until you are within 1/8th a turn of the desired orientation when hand tight and then tighten with a wrench to proper alignment and torque.

These shims are well made, from good materials (hardened stainless steel), and they are extremely easy to use. Check them out at White Sound Defense.
