New from SIONICS – 16″ 416R SS “RECCE” Barrel

SIONICS Weapon Systems has released a new 16″ stainless steel barrel. The new barrel, the 16″ 416R SS “RECCE” Barrel, is currently available separately from their website and will be available as an option on their uppers/complete rifles next week. If these shoot anywhere near as well as their 18″ stainless barrels, they will be excellent performers.

The 16″ 416R SS “RECCE” Barrel has everything you expect from a SIONICS barrel including an in-house designed medium contour, 1 in 8″ twist, 5.56 chamber, M4 barrel extension, mid-length gas, and SIONICS’ own extensive QC processes. Check out the barrels on SIONICSWeaponSystems.com for more details.

DDI Stamped AK-47, AGS DIY Edition

I recently reviewed a DDI Stamped AK-47, Zhukov Edition. It is very impressive rifle in part because of the Magpul Zhukov Furniture but mostly because of the quality of the base components. Now you can start with just those base components and build your own DDI AK with which ever furniture you choose.

DDI DIY

AGS Armament has an exclusive DDI Stamped AK-47, AGS DIY Edition. This is a complete and functioning DDI AK minus the furniture. You save some cash and get to choose your own grip, stock, and hand guard.

These were introduced last night and several have already sold so don’t drag your feet.

KDG Releases SIDELOK – Aimpoint Micro Mount

Kinetic Development Group (KDG) has releases their SIDELOCK – Aimpoint Micro Mount. It is available from their website and authorized dealers.

SIDELOK MICRO #1-SMALL

From KDG:

KDG expands their lineup of SIDELOK optic mounts with a new model for the popular Aimpoint micro red dot optics. Designed to fit Aimpoint T1, T2, H1 and H2 models, the mount will also fit other popular miniature red dots that share the same footprint. The Sidelok micro mount allows the user to achieve a lower 1/3 co-witness with flip up iron sights when mounted on the AR-15 or M4 carbine.  This lightweight, 2.7 ounce Aluminum mount uses KDG’s Sidelok (pat. Pending) cam lock system to attach to picatinny rails instantly. With no tools needed to attach the mount, the user simply rocks their setup onto the chosen mounting space, and down onto the rail. Once pressed down, the Micro Mount self locks, and the optic can be zeroed in the usual fashion. Removal is equally fast, and can be accomplished with one hand even while wearing gloves. The front-located release button has a smaller, recessed secondary lock, which must be deliberately pressed in to facilitate removal; similar to the way a Glock trigger safety works. Do to its’ design, it is virtually impossible to accidentally engage the release, and the cam lock system ensures a secure grasp on various sized (and some out of spec) picatinny rails. This equates to a fast, easy means of removing and attaching optics while retaining an absolute return to zero. The smooth sides of the mount prevent snagging and “Busted Knuckle Syndrome”, while the unique skeletonized riser reduces the overall weight of the mount.

KDG plans to continue releasing more Sidelok models for other common optics, including one for the recently released Trijicon MRO. The new Aimpoint Micro Mount is currently available on their website and at their authorized dealers and distributors. MSRP for the mount is $139.00. For more information visit the links below.

Battle Arms Development Advanced Tactical Grip – BAD-ATG

If you can’t decide between an AR-15 grip with a more vertical grip angle or a more traditionally raked back grip angle, the new Battle Arms Development Advanced Tactical Grip (BAD-ATG) might be for you. It offers 3 different grip angle (17, 25, & 33 degrees) that can be configured by the user during the installation.

The BAD-ATG has very subtle finger grooves and a mix of textures to keep you locked onto the grip. Check out the new grip at Battle Arms Development.

IWC Expands SMC Light Mount Line in a Big Way

Impact Weapons Components (IWC) quietly rolled out three new additions to their excellent SMC Light Mount line. The original SMC Light Mount was, and still is, the ideal light mount for use with the pre-MLOK MOE Hand Guards from Magpul. It’s design allowed it to bolt easily to the MOE slots and cantilever the light forward and up, freeing up space on the hand guard and placing the light in the ideal solution for the support hand thumb.

When you look at the SMC, which predates the IWC/HSP Thorntail series of light mounts, you can see the lineage of the IWC/HSP Light Mounts. This ability to extend the light forward has become a signature of IWC’s light mounting products.

On to the new products…

SMCXL – The SMC XL is basically just a longer version of the original SML. It places the light at the same height as the original but extends it forward further. This is especially useful on the new MOE SL Hand Guards and shorter versions of Magpul’s MOE AK Hand Guards. Like the original, it accepts Surefire Scout lights directly and can be used with IWC’s flashlight rings in various sizes. It also accepts the new 45 Offset 1913 for the SMC/SMCXL.

It is available separately for use with the Surefire Scout lights, bundled with various sizes of flashlight rings, or bundled with the new 45 Offset 1913 rail.

IWC SMCXL

45 Offset 1913 for the SMC/SMCXL – The new 45 Offset 1913 is a bolt on part for the SMC and SMCXL. It mounts to the same threaded holes used by IWC’s flashlight rings. This rail features 4 cross slots which makes it the perfect length for mounting lights like Surefire’s X300 series or the INFORCE WML. This not only extends the light up and forward but cants it at 45 degrees to make operating the switch more ergonomic.

It is available separately as an addition to your existing SMC/SMCXL, or bundled with either the SMC or SMCXL.

IWC 45 1913 Offset 1913

SMC M-LOK Adapters – This is the least obvious addition to the line but one that brings the SMC/SMCXL functionality to ALL available MOE Hand Guards. When you purchase an SMC or SMCXL Light Mount, you select which hand guard you will be mounting it to. If you select one that features M-LOK slots, two small spacers are included that simply slip into the SMC mount’s screw holes and fill the space in the larger M-LOK slots. They are very easy to use and they add nothing to the cost of the mount.

The release of these items is good news for MOE Hand Guard user but it is especially good news for those using Magpul’s Hand Guards on their AK pattern rifles. The SMC is the perfect solution for placing your light on the shorter MOE AK and AKM Hand Guard. They work especially well when coupled with a hand stop which makes the light easy to reach and operate. I have tried a number of light mounting solutions for my AKs and these are by far the best.
