PWS MK1 Mod1 Piston System Video

M114RA1B_L_1I will admit that I really don’t care for gas piston AR-15s… but I love seeing how things work! I wish more manufacturers would make informational product videos like this new one from PWS that details their MK1 Mod1 Piston System. It utilizes a cutaway version of a PWS carbine to great effect. This type of well presented information is educational, engaging, and impressive.

Any chance you would elaborate on your reasons behind not liking piston driven AR-15’s? I’ve done quite a bit of research, and from what I’ve found, PWS has garnered some pretty hardcore fans based on the reliability and function of their rifles. So much so that amidst the throng of all the AR’s out there, I myself have been saving up for one of their products.

Sure. I think that they are unnecessary for most users, they add unnecessary weight, and come with their own set of issues. Pistons are great in guns that were designed around them but the DI system works fine in the AR. That said, companies like PWS, HK, and Ruger (yes, Ruger) have piston ARs pretty well figured out. I am just not interested in paying more for them when DI works as well as it does.

I’ll tell you why Piston’s are better. They will run even when they are dry. 1000 rounds without any oil or lube or cleaning and still runs with no lockups or jams. They work better with suppressor cans (esp 14.5″ barrels and lower); less blow back in your face when suppressed.
If you happen to live by the ocean, get one with NP3 coated internals and you can literally swim with the thing on your back, then go shoot 1000+ rounds with no cleaning or lube. They are that good. POF, LWRC, PWS.
